Capitolo 20 - La Prova

I tre amici tornano a Swansea e vanno verso il posto indicato dalle coordinate. Le coordinate portano a un'enorme villa con un ingresso molto grande. Quando arrivano lì, la porta si apre da sola. Nel salone della villa c'è un uomo seduto su una poltrona. È l'uomo col cappello. I tre amici lo guardano. Accanto all'uomo col cappello c'è una porta con una tastiera.

Per qualche istante nessuno dice nulla. L'uomo col cappello non risponde alle domande dei tre amici, così David si avvicina alla tastiera e dice:

–Immagino che voglia che immettiamo la combinazione. I numeri mancanti –dice David.

–Finiamola con tutto questo una volta per tutte –dice Tony.

–Inserisci il codice, David –dice Marta.

David digita sulla tastiera i numeri trovati e la porta si apre.

–Congratulazioni –dice l'uomo col cappello –Avete superato la prova.

L'uomo col cappello ha una voce grave e profonda.

–David, dato che sei stato tu a trovare il libro, per favore entra nella stanza.

David entra nella stanza e trova un altro foglio. L'uomo col cappello dice.

–Leggilo, David.

David inizia a leggerlo a voce alta:

–Salve, viaggiatore. Se sei arrivato fin qui, hai superato la prova. Hai vinto. Hai dimostrato di possedere spirito di iniziativa e la pazienza necessaria per ottenere tutti i numeri che aprono questa porta. Complimenti. Sei stato selezionato!

L'uomo col cappello si alza dalla poltrona. Si toglie il cappello. I tre amici non riescono a crederci.

–Adam? Sei sempre stato tu?

–Esatto. Congratulazioni per aver superato la prova. In questa villa lavoriamo con i migliori esperti del Regno Unito e internazionali. Avete dimostrato di avere spirito di iniziativa e di avventura. È tutto quello che cerchiamo. Offro a tutti e tre un lavoro. Formerete un gruppo di esperti in Italia e forse, tra non molto, potrete visitare anche altri Paesi. Vi interessa?

Alcune settimane dopo, i tre amici si trovano a Napoli.

–Ancora non riesco a crederci –dice Marta– era tutta una prova!

–Il lavoro mi piace –risponde David– finalmente posso studiare il dialetto napoletano!

–E io sto scoprendo tantissimo delle diverse regioni d'Italia–dice Tony.

–Il libro dov'è, David? –chiede infine Marta.

–Il libro della biblioteca di Swansea è di nuovo nello stesso posto dove l'ho trovato, in attesa che qualcun altro lo legga. Chissà se contiene nuove annotazioni e un'altra prova emozionante da superare – risponde David.

I tre amici tornano a Swansea e vanno verso il posto indicato dalle coordinate. The coordinates lead to a huge villa with a very large entrance. Les trois amis retournent à Swansea et se rendent à l'endroit indiqué par les coordonnées. Le coordinate portano a un'enorme villa con un ingresso molto grande. When they get there, the door opens by itself. Les coordonnées mènent à un immense manoir avec une très grande entrée. Quando arrivano lì, la porta si apre da sola. In the living room of the villa there is a man sitting in an armchair. Lorsqu'ils y arrivent, la porte s'ouvre d'elle-même. Nel salone della villa c'è un uomo seduto su una poltrona. It's the man in the hat. È l'uomo col cappello. The three friends look at him. C'est l'homme au chapeau. I tre amici lo guardano. Next to the man in the hat there is a door with a keyboard. Accanto all'uomo col cappello c'è una porta con una tastiera. For a moment nobody says anything.

Per qualche istante nessuno dice nulla. The man in the hat does not answer the three friends' questions, so David approaches the keyboard and says: -I guess he wants us to enter the combination. L'uomo col cappello non risponde alle domande dei tre amici, così David si avvicina alla tastiera e dice: The missing numbers -says David.

–Immagino che voglia che immettiamo la combinazione. -Let's finish this once and for all -Tony says. I numeri mancanti –dice David. -Enter the code, David, -says Marta.

–Finiamola con tutto questo una volta per tutte –dice Tony. David types the numbers they found into the keyboard and the door opens.

–Inserisci il codice, David –dice Marta. -Congratulations -says the man in the hat -You have passed the test.

David digita sulla tastiera i numeri trovati e la porta si apre. The man in the hat has a low and deep voice.

–Congratulazioni –dice l'uomo col cappello –Avete superato la prova. -David, since you were the one who found the book, please enter the room.

L'uomo col cappello ha una voce grave e profonda. David goes into the room and finds another sheet.

–David, dato che sei stato tu a trovare il libro, per favore entra nella stanza. The man in the hat says -Read it, David.

David entra nella stanza e trova un altro foglio. David starts reading it out loud: -Hello, traveller. L'uomo col cappello dice. If you've made it this far, you've passed the test.

–Leggilo, David. You have won.

David inizia a leggerlo a voce alta: You have proven that you have the initiative and patience necessary to get all the numbers that open this door.

–Salve, viaggiatore. Congratulations. Se sei arrivato fin qui, hai superato la prova. You have been chosen! Hai vinto. The man in the hat gets up from the chair. Hai dimostrato di possedere spirito di iniziativa e la pazienza necessaria per ottenere tutti i numeri che aprono questa porta. He takes off his hat. Complimenti. The three friends cannot believe it. –Adam? In this villa we work with the best UK and international experts. Sei sempre stato tu? You have shown a spirit of initiative and adventure.

–Esatto. That's all we're looking for. Congratulazioni per aver superato la prova. I'm offering jobs to all three of you. In questa villa lavoriamo con i migliori esperti del Regno Unito e internazionali. You will form a group of experts in Italy and perhaps, in the near future, you can visit other countries too. –Il lavoro mi piace –risponde David– finalmente posso studiare il dialetto napoletano! -The book from the library in Swansea is back in the same place where I found it, waiting for someone else to read it.

–E io sto scoprendo tantissimo delle diverse regioni d'Italia–dice Tony. I wonder if it has new notes and another exciting test to pass - responds David.

–Il libro dov'è, David? -Where is the book, David? –chiede infine Marta. -Marta finally asks.

–Il libro della biblioteca di Swansea è di nuovo nello stesso posto dove l'ho trovato, in attesa che qualcun altro lo legga. -The Swansea Library book is back in the same place where I found it, waiting for someone else to read it. Chissà se contiene nuove annotazioni e un'altra prova emozionante da superare – risponde David. Who knows if it contains new annotations and another exciting test to overcome-David replies.
