Je vais te la présenter et te dire ce qu'elle fait dans le cadre de Français Authentique. Et elle partagera avec toi ses meilleurs conseils pour améliorer ton français et elle te dira même ce qu'il faut éviter de faire, ce qu'il ne faut pas faire si tu veux progresser en français. Johan : Merci beaucoup de ton temps et de venir nous parler un peu de ton expérience.

Valentine : Bon, avec plaisir. Ça me fait très plaisir d'être là.

Johan : Ça va donner un peu de diversité aussi à la chaîne puisque les gens ont l'habitude de me voir, et toi, on va en parler, tu interviens de plus en plus dans les contenus, les vidéos You Tube. Évidemment, je te cite de temps en temps, mais aujourd'hui ils vont pouvoir mettre un visage sur la personne qui est derrière beaucoup de contenus. Valentine, est-ce que tu peux, dans un premier temps, te présenter brièvement ? Nous dire qui tu es en quelques mots ?

Valentine : Oui, bien sûr, quelques phrases. Je suis Valentine. Je suis française, je suis native française, et je suis née dans le Sud de la France. Peut-être que ça s'entend légèrement par moment. Je viens du Sud de la France. Mais pas très fort, j'imagine.

Johan : C'est très léger. Non, moi, si tu ne me l'avais pas dit, je n'aurais pas forcément deviné. Et c'est le Sud-Ouest hein, me semble-t-il.

Valentine : Oui, c'est ça. C'est de Toulouse pour les connaisseurs. Je viens de Toulouse. Et actuellement, je ne suis pas en France, puisque j'habite en Angleterre depuis quelques années, dans le Sud également, à Bristol. Et ça fait quelques années que je m'oriente professionnellement et personnellement autour de l'apprentissage des langues, le français en particulier. Donc, c'est le milieu dans lequel j'ai fait des études récemment et dans lequel je travaille depuis un moment. Et c'est ce qui m'a amenée il y a quelques mois dans l'équipe Français Authentique, puisque ça fait quelques mois maintenant que je suis là.

Johan : Oui. Au moment où on enregistre, ça fait… parce que c'était en novembre hein, je pense, de l'année dernière, ça commençait novembre-décembre. Donc, on est à une dizaine de mois déjà. Ça passe très vite. Et du coup alors, quand tu as commencé à travailler avec Français Authentique, tu donnais des leçons, tu gérais des conversations Zoom dans le cadre de l'Académie Français Authentique dont je reparlerai un peu après. Donc moi, je t'ai découvert en tant que tutrice. Tu donnais des cours comme ça sur une plateforme qui s'appelle « italki ». Est-ce que tu peux nous parler plus globalement du coup de ton expérience dans l'enseignement du français ?

Valentine : Oui, bien sûr. En fait, j'ai commencé à être tutrice, à donner des leçons privées. En règle générale, c'était juste en face à face, une personne, une personne. J'ai eu quelques élèves en vrai, comme on peut dire, en face à face, dans la vraie vie, avant qu'on soit tous bloqués chez nous avec la pandémie qui est arrivée. Et donc, c'était le moment où effectivement j'ai commencé sur cette plateforme, sur italki, qui est une espèce de catalogue de tuteurs, un bon paquet de langues. Il y a beaucoup de langues disponibles, il n'y a pas que le français.

Grâce à ça, j'ai commencé mon activité professionnelle de tutrice en proposant différents types de choses, des conversations pour les gens qui ont juste envie de pratiquer et de parler avec des natifs. On sait que ce n'est pas toujours évident de trouver des personnes natives de la langue cible qu'on est en train d'apprendre, donc pour parler, et aussi des personnes qui avaient un niveau 0 en français qui partaient de rien du tout et avec qui on a pu commencer une chouette aventure.

Johan : Tu utilisais l'anglais pour les débutants, j'imagine…

Valentine : Ça dépend. Oui, en fait, ça dépend de chaque apprenant. Il y a des apprenants… L'idée, je pense, c'est aussi de s'adapter à chaque personne et il y a des personnes pour qui c'est impensable de commencer sans utiliser l'anglais, ils en ont besoin, ils en ont envie. Donc, dans ce cas, il n'y a pas de souci un petit peu, même si très très vite, je l'abandonne, parce que je pense que même avec un petit niveau, il n'y a pas besoin d'une autre langue ou en tout cas, c'est pas cette approche que j'aime bien, je préfère être le plus possible en français même s'il faut mimer, même s'il faut montrer des images ou des trucs comme ça. Donc, ça dépend. Et puis, il y a des élèves, des apprenants qui sont comme ça aussi, qui ne veulent vraiment pas utiliser l'anglais. On s'adapte.

Johan : Oui, c'était mon cas quand j'ai commencé en allemand où on essayait de me dire : « Attends, on va expliquer les termes que tu ne comprends pas en anglais », qui était notre langue commune. Et moi, je suis comme toi et comme certains de tes étudiants. Je préfère, non, je suis dans le bain en allemand, en l'occurrence, pour les apprenants en français. Comme tu dis, il y a toujours possibilité de se faire comprendre et ça aide même, c'est même un petit défis pour le cerveau, donc ça aide à trouver plus…

Valentine : Oui, ça travaille hein.

Johan : Oui, tout à fait. C'est un peu comme la différence entre si on te donne le sens d'un mot et si tu vas chercher le mot dans le dictionnaire, tu vas le retenir un peu mieux en l'ayant cherché par toi-même en fait.

Valentine : Oui, c'est vrai. En règle générale, j'aime bien autant que faire se peut, autant que possible, je ne traduis pas, je n'aime pas traduire dans… Souvent, c'est le réflexe qu'on a. On dit : « Mais comment on le dit en anglais ? » Il existe, le mot, mais je vais plutôt essayer d'abord de le décrire et peut-être si c'est quelque chose qui, visuellement peut être montré, alors on va aller chercher des images. Et si vraiment… Bon, il y a des concepts qui sont un peu plus abstraits et qui sont compliqués à expliquer, donc si vraiment ça ne marche pas, peut-être qu'on peut aller chercher une définition et ensuite une traduction. Il y a plein d'étapes avant de tomber dans la traduction.

Johan : Bien sûr. Et c'est comme ça que les enfants apprennent. Comme les enfants ne connaissent pas un mot, je ne leur donne pas la signification en anglais. Il faut leur expliquer et leur montrer, donc c'est un peu le boulot du prof. Et du coup, tu as donné… c'est assez impressionnant, je n'ai plus le chiffre exact en tête, mais combien d'heures de cours au total ?

Valentine : OK. Donc là, ça fait un an et demi que je suis inscrite sur la plateforme et je pense qu'on n'est pas loin… je vais regarder rapidement pendant qu'on parle, mais je pense qu'on est 3 000 leçons ou un peu moins, 2 000 et des brouettes et des poussières. Donc ça, ce n'est pas un nombre d'heures, puisque j'ai des leçons… Oui, c'est 2 700 leçons. Donc, c'est un bon… Ça a explosé. Et en fait, dès le début, j'ai eu beaucoup d'heures de cours, donc c'était très chouette. Et en règle générale, je donne des leçons entre 30 minutes et maximum une heure. Je n'aime pas faire plus et je ne fais jamais moins.

Johan : D'accord. Oui. Et ça, ça ne prend pas en compte les petites leçons que tu as animées pour Français Authentique et ce que tu peux faire à l'extérieur aussi, puisqu'il me semble que tu es active dans des opérations culturelles aussi autour de l'apprentissage du français dans ta ville de Bristol, hein.

Valentine : Oui. Ça m'est arrivé de faire des choses principalement parce que j'ai des amis qui sont eux-mêmes apprenants de français et qui sont impliqués dans différentes assos, différents clubs et des choses comme ça. Donc, ça m'est arrivé de participer parce que je pense que, en ma qualité de native francophone, ça apporte toujours quelque chose d'avoir des natifs sur place.

Johan : Oui, tout à fait. Du coup, alors moi ce que j'ai vite repéré au moment où tu donnais les leçons dans le cadre des leçons Zoom qu'on donne dans l'Académie, c'est que tu as, grâce à cette expérience, donc c'est presque 3 000 leçons, tu as pu en fait obtenir beaucoup de retours des étudiants et tu sais en fait aujourd'hui exactement ou tu sais quels sont leurs besoins. Et si on fait un peu la transition vers tes tâches aujourd'hui au sein de Français Authentique, ça t'aide à rédiger des scripts par exemple, parce qu'aujourd'hui, c'est toi qui rédiges les scripts vidéo You Tube, que j'enregistre par la suite. Tu procèdes après au montage des vidéos. Donc ça, c'est cette expérience en fait qui t'a permis d'évoluer dans ce domaine.

Valentine : Oui. C'est sûr que quand tu passes… n'importe qui, qui passerait 8 heures, 10 heures par jour à parler avec des gens qui ont un profil un peu similaire. Alors bien sûr, c'est des gens qui sont partout dans le monde et qui ont tous une histoire différente, mais il y a des choses qui reviennent, il y a des obstacles, puisqu'ils ont tous l'apprentissage du français en commun. Donc, il y a des obstacles par rapport à la grammaire, il y a des questions qui se posent en tant qu'apprenant. Il y a beaucoup de possibilités et de façons d'apprendre. Donc, il y a des choses qui reviennent le plus souvent. Et c'est ça qui aide quand on cherche des idées de vidéo, on dit : « Bon, ben Ok, si tu as entendu 50 fois quelqu'un qui te dit : C'est quoi le subjonctif ? Ça sert à quoi ? Comment ça marche ? » Bon, peut-être que ça, ça mérite d'être expliqué.

Johan : Tout à fait. Ce qui est top et la raison pour laquelle ça marche si bien, c'est qu'en fait on a la même approche tous les deux, puisque quand tu prépares les scripts, que tu donnes trois astuces pour mieux parler à l'oral, ben c'est trois astuces que je partage en fait.
