Tout le monde a toujours été très admiratif, vous le savez... Mais le plafond de la salle, pardonnez moi, cher Garnier, le peintre, là, que vous avez choisi, ce Lenepveu, il a très mal vieilli.

Figurez vous qu'un soir de février 1960, me rendant dans votre théâtre, voilà qu'à l'entracte, je lève les yeux sur le plafond de la salle... Et là que vois-je, cher Garnier, en guise de couleurs et de peinture? Rien! Du fade, du gris, comme si le plafond avait disparu!

Il était temps de faire quelque chose! Et c'est ainsi que j'ai commandé à mon ami Marc Chagall un nouveau plafond pour recouvrer l'ancien : une symphonie de couleurs éblouissante qui non seulement est une merveille, mais aussi le plus bel hommage à la musique, à la danse et à la France. Un chef-d'œuvre pictural, cher Garnier, l'équivalent des plafonds de Tiepolo à Venise.

Et si le plafond en fait scandale, au début, c'est le plus bel hommage, cher Garnier, qu'il jamais été rendu à votre palais!
