22. The reign of Alfonso XIII

Ya os expliqué que Alfonso XIII se convirtió en el rey de España en un momento en el que el país era un poco inestable, era muy inestable.

Vamos a ver si durante su reinado se consiguió que la situación se estabilizase más o no, o al contrario se volviese peor. Vamos a ver.

Hola, pues sí, Alfonso XIII reinó entre 1902 y 1931. Y bueno, ya os expliqué que técnicamente Alfonso XIII era el rey desde antes, desde el momento en el que nació.

Bueno, esto causó muchos problemas, mucha gente no estaba de acuerdo, empezaron a haber protestas, hubieron huelgas, gente que se negaba a ir a trabajar para protestar por esto.

Sobre todo en Barcelona, sobre todo en la ciudad de Barcelona. Y los problemas fueron tan grandes que el gobierno decidió declarar el estado de guerra. Es, bueno, como un estado de emergencia, ¿no?

Muchos productos se vendían al extranjero antes de venderse en España hasta el punto que empezaron a faltar productos que se vendiesen en España. Los precios de las cosas en España empezaron a subir y entonces el movimiento obrero, los trabajadores, la gente que no tenía mucho dinero, se empezaron a quejar, bueno empezaron, empezaron a quejarse más todavía.

Así que llegó en 1917 lo que llamamos la crisis de 1917. Entonces aquí los militares también se estaban quejando, se estaban quejando por el sueldo que tenían. La oposición política, el otro partido político del gobierno, también era muy crítico del gobierno y también hubo muchas huelgas, mucha gente hizo huelga en esa época.

Entonces con toda esta situación se produce un golpe de estado. Otra vez un general militar, Miguel Primo de Rivera. Muchas veces lo llamamos Primo de Rivera. Y empieza la dictadura de Primo de Rivera.

Primo de Rivera pues eso, dio un golpe de estado y el rey vio que las otras opciones tampoco eran muy buenas así que bueno le dejó dar un golpe de estado. Y así esto fue en 1923 y así empieza la tercera parte del reinado de Alfonso XIII.

Entonces esta dictadura duró 7 años. Y inicialmente el pueblo, la gente no se opuso mucho a pesar de que era una dictadura. No se opuso mucho porque el sistema ya no estaba funcionando bien.

Y mucha gente pensó que quizá Primo de Rivera se iba a atrever a hacer los cambios que hacían falta, los cambios que se tenían que hacer. Pero bueno, muy pronto se empezó a ver de que no fue muy bien para mucha gente.

Primo de Rivera disolvió el gobierno, deshizo el gobierno, ya no había gobierno electo, canceló la constitución. La constitución ya no era válida. Y en las posiciones de poder en el gobierno, Primo de Rivera puso a la gente que él quería. Puso a sus amigos, a la gente que iba a hacer lo que él les dijese.

Primo de Rivera tomó una posición muy dura contra los independentismos, contra los movimientos independentistas, pues los intentó luchar duramente contra ellos. Aún así la situación no fue demasiado inestable.

En 1925 España ganó la guerra en el norte de Marruecos y la economía de España fue bien, fue bastante bien durante este periodo.

Y entonces su dictadura, la dictadura de Primo de Rivera, aprovechó para intentar hacerse, intentar legitimizarse, hacerse más legítima, convertirse de un gobierno militar a un gobierno civil.

Pero la oposición contra la dictadura era fuerte. Había, por ejemplo, muchos empresarios, mucha gente también rica, burguesa, que no estaba de acuerdo porque para empezar el gobierno había centralizado mucho el control.

El gobierno había dado muchos beneficios a sus amigos, había dado beneficios a empresarios que eran amigos de Primo de Rivera o de las personas que estaban en cargos importantes.

Entonces la opinión de la gente en contra de la dictadura empezó a crecer y llegó a un punto que Alfonso XIII le pidió a Primo de Rivera que se fuese. Le pidió que dimitiese, que dejase de ser dictador y que se fuera de España, que se fuera del país.

Porque el rey también pensaba que si la gente estaba en contra de la dictadura y él apoyaba a la dictadura, que más y más gente iba a estar en contra de él.

Entonces el rey esperaba volver a la situación anterior, esperaba volver al sistema de dos partidos que se fuesen turnando. Pero la situación en España había cambiado bastante, ya no era lo mismo.

En esta época se reúnen los republicanos, se reúnen las personas que pensaban, bueno, que no querían tener un rey, que no querían tener una monarquía, querían una república.

Entonces los republicanos querían aliarse con Cataluña, querían aliarse, querían la ayuda de Cataluña y les prometen que si ellos consiguen el poder en el país, que Cataluña tendrá más autonomía, tendrá el derecho de decidir sus propias leyes.

Y entonces los republicanos empiezan a planear un golpe de estado y deshacerse del rey. Pero los descubren, los descubren y entonces no consiguen su objetivo.

Entonces Alfonso XIII viendo la situación se da cuenta que no puede seguir siendo el rey y se va de España. Él también se va.
