Introduction to Verbs

Icelandic verbs work on very similar principles to English verbs.

They conjugate for all the different pronouns, but the way different tenses are expressed is very similar to English. Here's a regular verb in the present tense

Ég drekk - I drink
Þú drekkur - you drink
Við drekkum - we drink
Þið drekkið - you (plural) drink
Hann/hún/það drekkur - he/she/it drinks
Þeir/þær/þau drekka - they drink

Þér drekkið – you (formal, outdated) drink

As we advance through a few sets of example sentences, you'll learn some more about the different types of Icelandic verbs. Here are some of the simplest example sentences:

Hann býr í Ameríku.
He lives in America.

Ég fer með honum.
I go with him.

Við drekkum bjór.
We drink beer.

Here is a verb that is conjugated a bit differently:

Ég fæ – I get

Þú færð – you get

Við fáum – we get

Þið fáið – you (plural) get

Hann/hún/það fær – he/she/it gets

Þeir/þær/þau fá – they get

Þér fáið – you (formal, outdated) get
