some people don't believe I am a foreigner
a Persian idiom
La suciedad bajo mis pies
La terre sous mes pieds
nobody taught us what 'ghabeli nadaare' means
a persian idiom
No quemes cebollas
Ne pas chauffer l'oignon
Iranians know hot to be happy
Los iraníes saben cómo ser felices
Les Iraniens savent être heureux
they are nice like flowers
Glándula en este sentido
Glande dans ce sens
I made a bad smell on the balcony with eggplants
for sure Iranian leave bad comments
hi, welcome to my channel
this is Majid
today, I speak with Elena from Belarus
Hoy estoy hablando con Elena de Bielorrusia.
who learned Persian
qui a appris lui-même la langue persane
has an Iranian husband
Tiene una esposa iraní.
Hi Elena, how are you?
Hi, thanks, and you?
I'm fine, too. Thanks
Estoy bien también, gracias
well, I'd like you to introduce yourself to us
I am Elena, from Belarus
and I can speak Persian very well
Y sé farsi muy bien
Et je connais très bien le farsi
Ich heiße alle herzlich willkommen
greeting to all (who watch this video)
you can speak Persian very well
Conoces muy bien el farsi.
Vous connaissez très bien le farsi
where, when, how did you learn it?
I have almost 10 years experience (of learning Persian)
J'ai une dizaine d'années d'expérience
everything began from here, from the city of Minsk
Todo comenzó aquí en Minsk
Tout a commencé ici à Minsk
the Iranian embassy in Belarus gave a course
in Persian
clase de farsi
I had a friend
who had an Iranian boy-friend
ella tenia un novio irani
Elle avait un petit ami iranien
I had heard from her that...
J'avais entendu ça de lui
there was a course in the embassy
I enrolled (in the course)
j'ai écrit un nom
that was the beginning
C'était la première fois
can I ask you why? why Persian? many other language are out there
Puis-je demander pourquoi? Pourquoi le farsi ? Tant d'autres langues
because firstly it was introduced to me and then it was free (no fee)
it got me interested
the course was free, I said why not
I entered the course, it was difficult
Je suis venu, c'était très difficile
in the first year I was not that interested
I was a weak student
J'étais un élève très pauvre
but anyway
Mais ça va
after one year they offered me to go to Iran
Au bout d'un an, ils m'ont proposé de venir en Iran
to participate in a university program (a persian course)
Participer à un programme d'études
at the university of Tabatabaei (Tehran)
the course was for 1.5 months
there I got more familiar with your country, with your language
of course I was in the elementary level then
my Persian was horrible
Ma langue était horrible
but I got more interested by taking this course
going suddenly to another country like Iran
Partir dans un autre pays, l'Iran
to take part in a course to learn Persian
Apprenez la langue persane, suivez un cours
it was free of charge, ok, but
not everything was free of charge
Tout n'était pas gratuit
but making this decision, wasn't it difficult?
the decision to go to Iran to stay there for 1.5 - 2 months
it was a very hard decision
I talked to my parents
they allowed me to go
I think, an experience (opportunity) like this does not happen for everybody
she is an Iranian lady who teaches here (in Minsk)
we got counsel from her
Nous l'avons consulté
she said the country is fully safe for us
that way the decision got confirmed
C'était bien comme ça
you had to pay of course for the costs of living, right?
absolutely free
they (the audience) might say now what free-loaders come here
Maintenant, ils disent (ils disent) wow, combien de gens libres affluent
foreigners
well most of it was for free
Eh bien, la plupart étaient gratuits bien sûr
yes, we lived free of charge in hotels
and the whole course, food, everything was free for us
very well, I think such costs are good (for a country)
when somebody comes to learn our language
the grammar is easy for us
the diffiuclty was this:
there is also another thing: street talk (colloquial Persian)
Mais il y a aussi le langage de la rue
you say'Mikhaam' (in daily conversations), not 'mikhaaham', nobody says that
of course writing system is also difficult
Bien sûr, écrire est aussi très difficile
yes from right to left is a big difference
that's why it was a bit difficult for me
also I must say, there in Iran
old litrary texts which are no more used in current conversations
it was really difficult for me
really difficult
Most of these things were taught to us rather than vernacular
unfortunately it is true
that was exactly why I dedicated my channel to colloquial Persian
how come did you launch a (youtube) channel in Persian and to react to Persian music?
Mohsen Yeganeh has a song: 'behet ghol midam' (I promise you)
I realised it from this song that
a lot of people just make videos reacting to such songs
Ils s'assoient et réagissent aux chansons
I was not at all aware (of such a trend)
after watching some of such videos, I told myself
Après en avoir vu quelques-uns, j'ai dit
perhaps, I should also give it a try
my audience is more interested in whatever that is related to Iran
such topics are of more interest to them
they support me very well
Ils soutiennent très bien
Do you get also bad comments? Do they write bad things to you?
it is for sure that Iranians leave bad comments
it can happen
se produit
actually I think it happens all over the world
there are always people out there in the world who are simply haters
then you married also an Iranian man
when I was learning Persian here (in Minsk)
Quand j'étudiais le farsi ici
we had a lot of cultural gatherings
my future husband had come here to visit his friend
who was studying here
let's say, it was there that we met each other
On s'y est vu, pour ainsi dire
we got to know each other, then he went back to Iran
and exactly at that time I got the offer to go to Iran
I mean this invitation (to the persian course) from the university
I went to Iran, we met each other again
J'y suis allé, nous nous sommes revus
he invited me to his city
he simply offered me to go to his vity
we went together by bus
he introduced me to his family
Il m'a présenté à sa famille
it was really interesting for me
they gave me a warm welcome
Ils m'ont très bien traité
they were very nice
and the next year we got married
we married in Belarus
didn't you like to have a wedding party in Iran?
Mais aimeriez-vous avoir un mariage iranien ?
I don't know, perhap it was better that I didn't have it
because having so many people around at that time was difficult for me
we are not accustomed to such parties with a lot of people
well, when you went to Iran for the first time
what was new to you?
about culture, about people, about the atmosphere in Iran
first of all, your Taarof
you ask how much should I pay for the taxi ride
Monsieur, combien coûtait le taxi, par exemple ?
they said 'ghabeli nadaare' (it's a taarof phrase means you don't need to pay)
Ils ont dit que c'était impossible
swear to God, nobody had taught us
what 'ghabeli nadaare' means
Qu'est-ce que ça veut dire?
I can remember we got into a taxi
the driver was an old man
Un vieil homme était le chauffeur
we sang a lot of poem for him
Nous lui lisons de la poésie
he kept saying 'beautiful! nice!'
later when he took us to the hotel (dstination)
he said 'ghaabeli nadaare'
we said 'REALLY?? THANKS!'
Et nous avons dit vraiment !? Merci Monsieur
we thought he enjoyed our poetry singing so much that he said
goodbye, you don't need to pay (ghabel nadaare)
we simply got out of the taxi (without paying)
On s'en est tiré comme ça
we saw that the car stayed there a little...and stayed a bit more
On a vu que la première voiture était restée
but he didn't come to us to ask for the money
well, that way we ripped the oldman off
aha, he didn't come to you
Oh, il n'est pas venu vers toi
no, he didn't
so the poor oldman got stuck in the Tarrof that he made
because the phrase 'ghaabel nadaare'
in fact 99% it means
perhaps 100% it means give me the money
you have to pay the money
we just say it as a kind of Tarrof
the the first strange or interesting thing for you in Iran was Tarrof
what else?
well your people love people from abroad
they are really nosy (curious), they'd like to come to ask you about everyything: where you are from, etc.
the people are really kind
our people (in Belarus) are well-known for being cold-hearted
we are not that kind like Iranians
and Iranians like it really always to help you
even to people they don't know
Iranians unfortunately don't speak straighforwardly
they are really polite
that's why they are not used to being direct
apart from this course, did you go to Iran to stay there for a while?
after the marriage, we went to Iran to live there
to live there??
yes, I packed my suitcase
said goodbye to my parents
and I wannted to live in Iran forever
interesting
I lived there for 1.5 years
once, I even wore those floral Chadors
and went to buy bread
do you travel to Iran now? or would you like to travel to Iran again?
generally I love travelling around Iran
because we mostly go to visit my husband's family
it means that the whole travel is spent in their city
that's why I haven't seen Iran properly
we have some travels to some cities there in Iran
but there is a lot that I haven't seen yet
now on the internet I see things
that drops my teeth what is going on in Iran
you talked about Taarof
which Iranian tradition or culture do you like most?
you find it really cool
in the evening when you go to Park
(you see) the familes who are sitting together
talking, eating nuts together
until midnight
it was a big question always for me
how?
they have no worries over tomorrow
niether are they worried about problems
it gives you a great sense of peace
which was really strange to me
the relationship among family members is really strong
the go to picnic together, they travel together
we don't have it to that extent here
when I came back from Iran
I tried to make this culture
in my family
we even wait until family members come, so that we can eat all together
yes yes
generally I believe this strong relationship in a family is good, is great
what I really like is that Iranins know how to be happy
they are really happy people
so that when they are stuck in a traffic or when they are driving
they pull over suddenly and start dancing in the street
we have a flat tire, come on let's dance
that's awesome
Iranians are perfect in this way
back to language
you have a lot of polite words and phrases
even the word 'mercy'
has multiple forms (alternatives):
tashakor, mercy, mamnoon
ghorboonet beram, khake zire patam
inshalla aroosi bachat
chakerim, nokarim, fadat sham
bemiram barat, fadat
there are so many, that's awesome
a lot of polite words like Azizam, Joonam, etc.
your language in this way is really good
is really nice, and enjoyable
'piaaz daagh nakon'
(I correct) piaaz daaghesh ro ziaad nakon (means don't exaggerate)
a phrase, a word which is difficut for you to pronounce
even after 10 years you still have problem to say it
Kaghaz (means paper)
I always forget which comes first 'K' or 'GH'
(comes) in the begging or at the end
it is (still) a bit difficult for me
I can say it was very difficult for me
to learn this word
when I tell my friends to say this word
nobody can do it, it is really difficult
do you cook Iranian food for your husband?
can you cook Iranian food? do you yourself like it?
I only cook Iranian food for him
even this one...
the food from the north of Iran
it is made with eggplants, it is famous...
Mirza Ghasemi
well done! right! we also cooked Mirza Ghasemi
I made a terrible smell on the balcony
with the eggplants
the smell didn't go away fo days
then what about 'Ghorme Sabzi'
when you cook 'Ghorme Sabzi' the whole neighborhood smells like Ghorme Sabzi
do you yourself like Iranian food?
which one do you like most?
well I like Ghorme Sabzi
when it is well cooked
yummy
and which one do you cook best?
Khoresht Bademjoon (Eggplants Stew)
I love it and I cook it perfectly
when your Belarusian friends come over
I try to have both
but our main food is always with rice
what is their idea about Iranian food? do they eat? do they like it?
they eat, but for example having something like barberry in food is strange for us
what common words, common idioms or proverbs do you see?
what did you find?
well there are a lot of common words
I think we found about 60 common words
like charlatan
samavar (samowar) is well-known
estekan (glass), garage, benzin, gaz (gas)
I think most of them come from English
I don't know where they come from really
but there are many common words
like 'chamedoon' (suitcase)
'chaii' , we say 'chai'
both you and us, we have a lot of superstition
you for example
when the guests are leaving
you pour a jug of water down on the earth
I think however it is different from cities to cities
to wish the people who are leaving a safe trip back home
we, before we go somewhere like before travelling
we sit
it means that you should sit for a moment
and then you get up and you can go
aha, it is like our 'SABR' (wait) tradition
when somebody sneezes
we say 'WAIT' (wait or patience order has come)
it means you should wait for a moment
it is just superstition
