“I hope you are not angry with me,” she says, laughing.
“No, not really,” I say.
“But I have decided to return the jewels to the museum in Egypt. My Egyptian friend is going to do the same. I like Egypt. I like practicing my Arabic and I don't want trouble there. I think your sister should do the same, otherwise I will inform the authorities.”
“Maybe you are right,” she says.
“Would you like another beer?” I ask her.
We sit quietly. I think of the money I might have had. Then, on the other hand, I think of the trouble I might have had. I start to eat my soup. I feel warm and happy for the first time in days.
