Robert Burns is a famous Scottish writer. He was born on the 25th of January 1759 in Alloway. Alloway is a small village in South Ayrshire. Robert grew up on a farm. His family were farmers.

He wrote many poems. He wrote poems in English but he also wrote poems in the Scottish dialect. He wrote poems about love, nature, and Scottish society.

He died on the 21st of July 1796. He was only 37 years old.

Today many children in Scottish schools learn about Robert Burns and his life. They sometimes memorise one or two of his poems. A famous line from one of his poems is: “My love is like a red red rose”.

Every year on Robert Burns birthday, people celebrate “Burns Night”. In many towns in Scotland, people come together to celebrate Burns and his poems. People wear traditional Scottish clothes, for example, kilts. They read some of his famous poems. People also eat traditional Scottish food like haggis. Haggis is made inside of a sheep's stomach.
