Capítulo 12
1 Jesus ergo ante sex dies Paschæ venit Bethaniam, ubi Lazarus fuerat mortuus, quem suscitavit Jesus.

1 Jesus therefore came six days before the Passover to Bethany, where Lazarus had died, whom Jesus raised.

2 And they made him a supper there, and Martha ministered, but Lazarus was one of those reclining with him.

3 Mary then took a pound of precious nard ointment, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the smell of the ointment.
||||||Judas Iscariot|Iscariot|||||||ointment||"was sold for"|three hundred|denarii||||to the poor

4 Then Judas the Iscariot, one (of) his disciples, and the one who would betray him, said, 5 "Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days' wages and given to the poor?"
|||not|||poor people|"concerned him"|||but|||||money bag||them||were being sent|he was carrying

6 He said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief and held the money bag and used to steal the contributions.
7 Dixit ergo Jesus : Sinite illam ut in diem sepulturæ meæ servet illud.
||||||||"of burial"||let it keep|
|||Deixem-na||||||||
7 So Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Let her keep this for the day of my burial.

8 For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.
||||||||||||||||||they might see||"raised from dead"||
||||||||||vieram||||||||||||
9 (The) large crowd of the Jews found out that he was there and came, not only because of Jesus, but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
|||of the priests|||||||||"were going away"||||||

10 And the chief priests thought to kill Lazarus also: 11 because many were departing from the Jews because of him, and believing in Jesus.

12 And on the morrow, a great multitude that had come to the feast day, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried: Hosanna, blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, king of Israel.
14 Et invenit Jesus asellum, et sedit super eum, sicut scriptum est : 15 Noli timere, filia Sion : ecce rex tuus venit sedens super pullum asinæ.
|||"young donkey"||||||||||||||||||foal|of a donkey
|||||||||||||||||||||filhote|
14 And Jesus found a donkey, and sat on it, as it is written: 15 Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion: behold, your king is coming sitting on the colt of a donkey.
||||||||||||they remembered|||||written||||||
||conheceram|||||||||então||||||||||||
16 His disciples did not know this at first: but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and they did these things to him.
||"was bearing witness"||||||||||||raised him up|||
17 The crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness.
||to meet||||||done this||

18 Therefore the crowd came to meet him, because they heard that he had done this sign.
19 Pharisæi ergo dixerunt ad semetipsos : Videtis quia nihil proficimus ?
|||||you see|||"We gain nothing"
19 The Pharisees then said to themselves: Do you see that we are making no profit?
ecce mundus totus post eum abiit.

behold, the whole world has gone after him.
|||"some Greeks"||||had ascended||"to worship"|||
20 Now there were some Gentiles, of these who had come up to worship on the festival day.
||they approached|||||||||||||we want||
21 These therefore approached Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and begged him, saying: Lord, we want to see Jesus.
22 Venit Philippus, et dicit Andreæ ; Andreas rursum et Philippus dixerunt Jesu.
22 Philip comes and says to Andrew; Again Andrew and Philip said to Jesus.
||||||||be glorified||
||||||||seja glorificado||
23 And Jesus answered them, saying: The hour is come that the Son of man shall be made manifest.
Jesus answered them, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
24 Amen, amen dico vobis, nisi granum frumenti cadens in terram, mortuum fuerit, 25 ipsum solum manet : si autem mortuum fuerit, multum fructum affert.

27 Nunc anima mea turbata est.

27 Now my soul is troubled.
Et quid dicam ?
And what shall I say?
Pater, salvifica me ex hac hora.
|"save"||||
Father, save me from this hour.
Sed propterea veni in horam hanc : 28 Pater, clarifica nomen tuum.
|||||||"glorify"||

But that is why I came to this hour: 28 Father, glorify your name.
||||||"I have glorified"|||"I will glorify"
Then came a voice from heaven: And I glorified, and I will glorify again.
|||||||thunder had occurred||
||||||dizia|trovão||
29 The crowd, then, which stood and had heard, said that there had been thunder.
Alii dicebant : Angelus ei locutus est.
Others said: An angel spoke to him.
30 Respondit Jesus, et dixit : Non propter me hæc vox venit, sed propter vos.
30 Jesus answered and said: This voice did not come because of me, but because of you.
31 Nunc judicium est mundi : nunc princeps hujus mundi ejicietur foras.
||||||||"will be cast out"|

31 Now is the judgment of the world: now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

32 And I, if I am exalted from the earth, will draw all things to myself.
|||indicating||||
33 (And this he said, signifying by what death he was about to die.)
34 Respondit ei turba : Nos audivimus ex lege, quia Christus manet in æternum : et quomodo tu dicis : Oportet exaltari Filium hominis ?
|||||||because||||||||||||son of man
||multidão|||||||permanece||||||||||
34 The crowd answered him: We have heard from the law that Christ remains forever: and how do you say: It is necessary for the Son of man to be exalted?
quis est iste Filius hominis ?
Who is this Son of Man?
35 Dixit ergo eis Jesus : Adhuc modicum, lumen in vobis est.
|||||pouco||||
35 Then Jesus said to them: There is still a little light in you.
Jesus said to them, "The light will be among you only a little while.

36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may be children of the light.
Jesus said these things, and went and hid himself from them.
||||||||||||word|Isaiah||was fulfilled||
|||||||||||||||se cumprisse||
37 But when he had performed so many signs before them, they did not believe in him; 38 that the word of the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled, which he said:
Domine, quis credidit auditui nostro ?

Lord, who believed what we heard?
et brachium Domini cui revelatum est ?
|arm|||revealed to whom|
and to whom was the arm of the Lord revealed?
39 Propterea non poterant credere, quia iterum dixit Isaias :
39 Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again:

40 He blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts so that they could not see with their eyes, and understand with their hearts, and be converted, and heal them.
41 These things said Isaiah when he saw his glory and spoke of him.

42 Nevertheless, many even of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be expelled from the synagogue. 43 For they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God. 44 Jesus cried out and said, 'He who believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. 45 And he who sees me sees him who sent me. 46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me should not abide in darkness. 47 And if anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. 48 He who rejects me and does not receive my words has that which judges him.'
Sermo quem locutus sum, ille judicabit eum in novissimo die.49 Quia ego ex meipso non sum locutus, sed qui misit me, Pater, ipse mihi mandatum dedit quid dicam et quid loquar.50 Et scio quia mandatum ejus vita æterna est : quæ ergo ego loquor, sicut dixit mihi Pater, sic loquor.

The word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. 49 For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has given me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his command is eternal life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told me, so I speak.
the word that I spoke, it will condemn him on the last day,
49 because I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So what I say, I say as the Father told me."
