Мимо ристалищ, капищ,
Past the lists, temples,
мимо храмов и баров,
past temples and bars,
мимо шикарных кладбищ,
past chic cemeteries,
мимо больших базаров,
past the big bazaars,
мира и горя мимо,
peace and grief past,
мимо Мекки и Рима,
past Mecca and Rome,
синим солнцем палимы,
burning blue sun,
идут по земле пилигримы.
pilgrims walk the earth.
Увечны они, горбаты,
They are crippled, hunchbacks,
голодны, полуодеты,
hungry, half dressed,
глаза их полны заката,
their eyes are full of sunset,
сердца их полны рассвета.
За ними поют пустыни,
Deserts sing behind them,
вспыхивают зарницы,
lightning flashes,
звезды горят над ними,
the stars burn above them,
и хрипло кричат им птицы:
and the birds hoarsely cry to them:
что мир останется прежним,
that the world will remain the same
да, останется прежним,
yes, stay the same
ослепительно снежным,
blindingly snowy,
и сомнительно нежным,
and doubtfully gentle,
мир останется лживым,
the world will remain false,
мир останется вечным,
может быть, постижимым,
но все-таки бесконечным.
but still endless.
И, значит, не будет толка
And, therefore, there will be no sense
от веры в себя да в Бога.
from faith in yourself and in God.
…И, значит, остались только
... And, therefore, only
иллюзия и дорога.
И быть над землей закатам,
And be above the earth sunsets,
и быть над землей рассветам.
and be above the earth dawns.
Удобрить ее солдатам.
Fertilize it to the soldiers.
Одобрить ее поэтам.
Approve it to the poets.
