Matt. 20
1 Simile est regnum cælorum homini patrifamilias, qui exiit primo mane conducere operarios in vineam suam.
||||to a man|of the head of the family|||first|morning|to hire|workers||vineyard|
For the kingdom of heaven is like a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.
convention||||workers||a denarius|daily||||vineyard|his
And when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
|having gone out||the hour|third|||||market|idle||||go||you|||||what|just|will be||
And going out about the third hour, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
5 Illi autem abierunt.
they|however|they went away
5 But they went away.
again|however|he went out|around|sixth|and|ninth|hour|and|he did|likewise
Again, however, he went out around the sixth and ninth hour: and did likewise.
6 Circa undecimam vero exiit, et invenit alios stantes, et dicit illis : Quid hic statis tota die otiosi ?
around|eleventh|indeed|he went out|and|he found|others|standing|and|he says|to them|what|here|you stand|whole|day|idle
6 Around the eleventh hour, however, he went out and found others standing, and said to them: Why are you standing here all day idle?
7 Dicunt ei : Quia nemo nos conduxit.
they say|to him|because|no one|us|he hired
7 They said to him: Because no one has hired us.
Dicit illis : Ite et vos in vineam meam.
he says|to them|go|and|you|into|vineyard|my
He says to them: Go you also into my vineyard.
when|late|however|having been done|it was|he says|lord|of the vineyard|to the steward|his|call|workers|and|pay|to them|wage|beginning|from|last|until|to|first
8 And when evening had come, the lord of the vineyard said to his steward: Call the laborers, and pay them their wages, beginning from the last to the first.
when|they had come|therefore|those who|around|eleventh|hour|they had come|they received|each|denarius
9 And when those who had come about the eleventh hour arrived, they received each one a denarius.
coming|however|and|first|having thought|they were|that|more|they would receive|about to receive|they received|however|and|they|each|denarius
10 But when the first came, they thought that they would receive more; but they also received each one a denarius.
and|receiving|were murmuring|against|||these||||they have done|and|equal|||you made||we carried|the burden|||heat
11 And receiving, they murmured against the master of the house, 12 saying: These last have worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who have borne the burden of the day and the heat.
13 At ille respondens uni eorum, dixit : Amice, non facio tibi injuriam : nonne ex denario convenisti mecum ?
|he|answering|to one|of them|he said|friend|not|I do|to you|injustice|not|for|the denarius|you agreed|with me
13 But he answering one of them, said: Friend, I do you no wrong: did you not agree with me for a denarius?
take|what|yours|is|and|go|I want|however|and|to this|last|to give|just as|and|to you
14 Take what is yours, and go: but I want to give to this last even as to you.
15 Aut non licet mihi quod volo, facere ?
|not|it is allowed|to me|what|I want|to do
15 Or is it not lawful for me to do what I will?
an oculus tuus nequam est, quia ego bonus sum ?
or|eye|your|bad|is|because|I|good|am
Is your eye evil because I am good?
16 Sic erunt novissimi primi, et primi novissimi.
thus|they will be|last|first|and|first|last
So the last will be first, and the first last.
Multi enim sunt vocati, pauci vero electi.
many|for|they are|called|few|but|chosen
For many are called, but few are chosen.
and|ascending|Jesus|to Jerusalem|he took|twelve|disciples|privately|and|he said|to them|behold|we are ascending|to Jerusalem|and|Son|of man|he will be handed over|to the chief|priests|and|to the scribes|and|they will condemn|him|to death|and|they will hand over|him|to the nations|for|mocking|and|scourging|and|crucifying|and|third|day|he will rise
And Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside and said to them: Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify, and on the third day he will rise again.
then|he approached|to|him|mother|of the sons|of Zebedee|with|sons|her|worshipping|and|asking|something|from|him
Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee approached him with her sons, worshiping and asking something from him.
21 Qui dixit ei : Quid vis ?
who|he said|to her|what|you want
He said to her: What do you want?
she said|to him|say|that|they may sit|these|two|sons|my|one|at|right|your|and|one|at|left|in|kingdom|your
She said to him: Say that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left in your kingdom.
22 Respondens autem Jesus, dixit : Nescitis quid petatis.
responding|however|Jesus|he said|you do not know|what|you are asking
But Jesus answering said: You do not know what you are asking.
Potestis bibere calicem, quem ego bibiturus sum ?
you are able|to drink|cup|which|I|about to drink|I am
Can you drink the cup that I am about to drink?
Dicunt ei : Possumus.
they say|to him|we are able
They said to him: We can.
he says|to them|cup|indeed|my|you will drink|to sit|but|at|right|my|or|left|not|it is|my|to give|to you|but|to whom|prepared|it is|by|Father|my
He said to them: You will indeed drink my cup; but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to give to you, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.
and|hearing|ten|they became angry|they are|about|two|brothers
And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers.
||||||||you know||princes|of the nations|rule||||greater||power|exercise||
25 But Jesus called them to him and said: You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them: and those who are great exercise authority over them.
||||||||||||be||minister||||||||||
26 It shall not be so among you: but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant: 27 and whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave.
|Son||||to be served||to serve|||||redemption||
28 Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
|as they were leaving|||Jericho|followed||||great crowd||||blind||by the side of|||||was passing|||||||son|
29 And as they were leaving Jericho, a great multitude followed him, 30 and behold, two blind men sitting by the road heard that Jesus was passing by: and they cried out, saying: Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David.
31 Turba autem increpabat eos ut tacerent.
crowd|but|was rebuking|them|to|be silent
31 But the crowd rebuked them so that they would be silent.
At illi magis clamabant, dicentes : Domine, miserere nostri, fili David.
but|they|more|were shouting|saying|Lord|have mercy|on us|son|David
But they cried out all the more, saying: Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David.
and|he stood|Jesus|and|he called|them|and|he said|what|you want|to|I do|for you
32 And Jesus stood still and called them, and said: What do you want me to do for you?
33 Dicunt illi : Domine, ut aperiantur oculi nostri.
they say|to him|Lord|that|they may be opened|eyes|our
33 They said to him: Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
34 Misertus autem eorum Jesus, tetigit oculos eorum.
having compassion|but|them|Jesus|he touched|eyes|them
34 But Jesus, having compassion on them, touched their eyes.
Et confestim viderunt, et secuti sunt eum.
and|immediately|they saw|and|having followed|they are|him
And immediately they saw, and followed him.
