신하들은 도사를 용왕님의 침실로 안내했습니다. 도사는 방으로 들어가서 용왕님께 인사했습니다.그리고 침대 옆 의자에 앉았습니다.

용왕님은 병 때문에 앞을 잘 볼 수 없었습니다. 하지만 이 도사가 보통이 아니라는 것은 바로 알 수 있었습니다.

용왕님은 작고 약한 목소리로 천천히 말했습니다.

“도사님, 어서 오세요. 어떻습니까? 제 병이 나을 수 있을까요?”

도사는 용왕님의 얼굴 여기저기를 보고 오랫동안 맥도 짚었습니다. 조금 뒤에 도사가 말했습니다.

“용왕님.”

“네, 말해 보세요. 병을 고칠 수 있겠습니까?”

“용왕님의 병은 너무 깊어서 약으로 치료할 수 없습니다.”

“아이고, 용왕님!”

신하들은 도사의 말을 듣고 눈물을 흘렸습니다.

“하지만 용왕님의 병을 치료할 수 있는 것이 딱 하나 있습니다.”

도사의 말을 듣고 용왕님은 매우 놀랐습니다.

“바로 토끼의 간입니다.”

도사가 대답했습니다.

신하들은 눈물을 그치고 도사의 다음 말을 조용히 기다렸습니다.

용왕님은 웃으며 말했습니다.

“이곳의 신하들은 힘든 일을 이겨 내고 토끼의 간을 꼭 가져올 겁니다.”

용왕님의 말을 듣고, 도사도 웃었습니다.

도사는 마지막 말을 남기고 바람처럼 사라졌습니다.
