News in levels, Tougher Sexual Harassment Rules for NYC Taxi Drivers

Tougher Sexual Harassment Rules for NYC Taxi Drivers

New York City's Taxi and Limousine Commission is tightening up it's sexual harassment rules for drivers. The New York Daily News reported Tuesday, March 29, that the TLC plans to add new definitions of sexual contact and sexual harassment to the rule book, along with tougher penalties for drivers who cross the line. Among other things, drivers of yellow taxis and Uber cars will not be allowed to ask a passenger on a date, or even comment on their appearance. Any type of sexual talk at all will be expressly off limits, as will any type of bodily contact, sexual or otherwise.

The idea is to steer drivers away from any improper conversations or contact. Drivers who violate the new rules could face a fine of up to $2,000 and have their license revoked. TLC officials will discuss the new rules at a hearing April 21.
