Gospel of Luke, Luc 24

Luc 24

Amen.

Luc 24 Lukas 24 Luke 24 Lucas 24

24 1 One Sabbath they came very early to the tomb, carrying the spices they had prepared: 2 and found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

3 Et ingressæ non invenerunt corpus Domini Jesu. 3 And when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it came to pass, while they were troubled in mind about this, behold, two men stood apart from them in shining garments. 5 Cum timerent autem, et declinarent vultum in terram, dixerunt ad illas : Quid quæritis viventem cum mortuis ? 5 But when they were afraid, and turned their faces to the ground, they said to them: What do you seek for the living with the dead? 6 He is not here, but he has risen: remember how he spoke to you when he was still in Galilee, 7 saying: Because the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and rise again on the third day. 8 Et recordatæ sunt verborum ejus. 8 And his words were remembered. 9 Et regressæ a monumento nuntiaverunt hæc omnia illis undecim, et ceteris omnibus. 9 And when they returned from the tomb, they told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 Now it was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary James, and the rest who were with them, who said these things to the apostles. 12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb: and stooping down, he saw the linen laid alone, and he went away wondering what had happened. 13 And behold, two of them went that day to a fort, which was at a distance of sixty stadia from Jerusalem, called Emmaus.

14 And they themselves spoke to each other about all these things that had happened. 15 And it came to pass, while they were conversing, and seeking with him: and Jesus himself, coming near, went with them: 16 but their eyes were kept so that they might not recognize him. 17 Et ait ad illos : Qui sunt hi sermones, quos confertis ad invicem ambulantes, et estis tristes ? 17 And he said to them: What are these words which you are talking one to another, as you walk, and are sad? And answering one, whose name was Cleophas, said to him: You are the only stranger in Jerusalem, and did you not know what has happened there in these days? 19 Quibus ille dixit : Quæ ? 19 To whom he said: Which? And they said: About Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, powerful in work and speech before God and all the people: 20 and how our high priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death, and crucified him: 21 but we hoped that he would redeem Israel : and now above all this, today is the third day that these things have taken place. 22 But some of our women also frightened us, who were at the tomb before dawn, 23 and not finding his body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who say that he is alive. 24 And some of our men went to the tomb: and they found it as the women said, but they did not find it. 25 Et ipse dixit ad eos : O stulti, et tardi corde ad credendum in omnibus quæ locuti sunt prophetæ ! 25 And he said to them: O fools, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Nonne hæc oportuit pati Christum, et ita intrare in gloriam suam ? 26 Should not Christ have suffered these things, and so enter into his glory? 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them in all the scriptures the things which were concerning him. And they drew nigh to the village whither they were going: and he made as though he would go further. 29 And they compelled him, saying: Stay with us, for it is getting late, and the day is already over. Et intravit cum illis. And he went in with them. 30 And it came to pass, while he reclined with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him: and he disappeared from their sight. 32 Et dixerunt ad invicem : Nonne cor nostrum ardens erat in nobis dum loqueretur in via, et aperiret nobis Scripturas ? 32 And they said to each other: Was not our heart burning within us while he was speaking on the road and opening the Scriptures to us? 33 Et surgentes eadem hora regressi sunt in Jerusalem : et invenerunt congregatos undecim, et eos qui cum illis erant, 34 dicentes : Quod surrexit Dominus vere, et apparuit Simoni. 33 And getting up at the same hour, they returned to Jerusalem: and they found the eleven assembled, and those who were with them, 34 saying: The Lord has truly risen, and appeared to Simon. 35 Et ipsi narrabant quæ gesta erant in via, et quomodo cognoverunt eum in fractione panis. 35 And they told what had happened on the way, and how they knew him in the breaking of the bread. 36 Dum autem hæc loquuntur, stetit Jesus in medio eorum, et dicit eis : Pax vobis : ego sum, nolite timere. 36 And while they were saying these things, Jesus stood in the midst of them and said to them: Peace be with you: I am he, do not be afraid.

37 But they were troubled and troubled, and thought they saw a spirit. 38 Et dixit eis : Quid turbati estis, et cogitationes ascendunt in corda vestra ? 38 And he said to them: Why are you disturbed, and thoughts come up in your hearts? 39 See my hands and feet, for I am myself; touch and see, for the spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see me having. 40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. But still to those who did not believe, and wondered for joy, he said: Have you here anything to eat? 42 At illi obtulerunt ei partem piscis assi et favum mellis. 42 But they offered him a portion of roasted fish and a comb of honey. 43 And when he had eaten before them, he took the leftovers and gave them. And he said to them: These are the words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, because it is necessary to fulfill everything that was written in the law of Moses, and the prophets, and the Psalms about me.

45 Then he opened to them the understanding that they might understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them: For thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for Christ to suffer, and rise from the dead on the third day: 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem . 48 Vos autem testes estis horum. 48 But you are witnesses of these things. 49 And I send the promise of my Father upon you; but you dwell in the city until you are clothed with power from on high. 50 And he led them outside to Bethany, and with his raised hands he blessed them.

51 And it came to pass, while he was blessing them, he departed from them, and was carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshiped and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53 and were always in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. Amen.
