Gospel of Luke, Luc 15

Luc 15

15 1 Now there were tax collectors and sinners approaching him to listen to him. 2 And the Pharisees and scribes grumbled, saying: Because this man receives sinners and eats with them. 3 Et ait ad illos parabolam istam dicens : 4 Quis ex vobis homo, qui habet centum oves, et si perdiderit unam ex illis, nonne dimittit nonaginta novem in deserto, et vadit ad illam quæ perierat, donec inveniat eam ? 3 And he spoke this parable to them, saying: 4 What man among you has a hundred sheep, and if he loses one of them, does he not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go to the one that was lost until he finds it? 5 Et cum invenerit eam, imponit in humeros suos gaudens : 6 et veniens domum convocat amicos et vicinos, dicens illis : Congratulamini mihi, quia inveni ovem meam, quæ perierat. 5 And when he finds it, he puts it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And coming home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them: Congratulate me, because I have found my sheep, which had perished. 7 I tell you that there will be as much joy in heaven over one sinner who does penance as over ninety-nine righteous people who do not need repentance.

8 Aut quæ mulier habens drachmas decem, si perdiderit drachmam unam, nonne accendit lucernam, et everrit domum, et quærit diligenter, donec inveniat ? 8 Or what woman having ten drachmae, if she has lost one drachmae, does she not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and search diligently until she finds it? 9 Et cum invenerit convocat amicas et vicinas, dicens : Congratulamini mihi, quia inveni drachmam quam perdideram. 9 And when he has found it, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying: Congratulate me, because I have found the drachma which I had lost. 10 Ita, dico vobis, gaudium erit coram angelis Dei super uno peccatore pœnitentiam agente. 10 Yes, I tell you, there will be joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner doing penance.

11 Ait autem : Homo quidam habuit duos filios : 12 et dixit adolescentior ex illis patri : Pater, da mihi portionem substantiæ, quæ me contingit. 11 And he said: A certain man had two sons: 12 And the younger of them said to his father: Father, give me a portion of the substance that falls to me. Et divisit illis substantiam. And he divided the substance among them. 13 And not after many days, when they were all gathered together, the younger son went abroad to a far country, and there wasted his substance by living luxuriously. 14 And after he had finished all, there was a severe famine in that region, and he himself began to be in want. 15 And he went and clung to one of the citizens of that region, and sent him to his farm to feed the pigs. 16 And he desired to fill his belly with the pods which the swine ate: and no one gave him any. 17 In se autem reversus, dixit : Quanti mercenarii in domo patris mei abundant panibus, ego autem hic fame pereo ! 17 But returning to himself, he said: How many hired men in my father's house abound with bread, but here I am dying of hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you: 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son: make me like one of your hired servants. 20 Et surgens venit ad patrem suum. 20 And he arose and came to his father. And when he was still a long way off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and running and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 21 Dixitque ei filius : Pater, peccavi in cælum, et coram te : jam non sum dignus vocari filius tuus. 21 And the son said to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you: I am no longer worthy to be called your son. And they began to feast. 27 And he said to him: Your brother came, and your father killed the fatted calf, because he received it safe. 28 Indignatus est autem, et nolebat introire. 28 But he was indignant, and would not go in. Pater ergo illius egressus, cœpit rogare illum. His father then went out and began to ask him. 29 But he answered and said to his father: Behold, I have served you for so many years, and I have never transgressed your commandment: and you have never given me a child to feast with my friends. 30 But after this son of yours, who devoured his substance with harlots, came, you killed a fatted calf for him. 31 But he said to him: Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. he was lost, and was found.
