Dr. Stephen Krashen, a Conversation About Language Acquisition (5)

escapes me, but she has a phenomen.

Her pronunciation in French is flawless, but she still makes

tremendous mistakes with gender.

Yeah.

But like, it's amazing.

She speaks like a French woman, but the gender is just so difficult to

get the hang of cuz we don't have it in English, but she, as an actress,

she's able to project herself into the role of being a French woman.

It's called method acting.

Method acting is where you get the emotion within our, within yourself.

And then you can.

But it's not real.

It's still acting.

You can do that.

You can do the accent in a film, et cetera, real life, something else.

However, to some extent, speaking of foreign language is a game.

To some extent we are imitating the culture, the language of another

group, we are pretending to be them.

We are acting to some extent or, or you don't agree?

I think that's fascinating.

Absolutely.

Maybe that's

on that not.

We can, we can end it.

I think we could probably go on for hours here, uh, talking about language.

Uh, I wanna end by, first of all, I have my, uh, Ukrainian ... on

today because it's the Ukrainian national day or day of independence.

And, uh, I think, uh, we all support Ukraine and, uh, their heroic

struggle against this evil invasion, but, um, also I wanna tell you

that you have been a big influence.

Uh, because of your wisdom and your ability, like when I

saw that book in Taipei, which was like this thin, all right.

And I, I showed the other day in my video, I got stacks of books that

are full of complicated language and everything that they said, and these

books was reduced into this book.

And the more we can deal with this instead of this, the better we can understand,

you know, the process of language earning.

So I thank you.

Well, thank you.

And thank you for all the help you've given me.

And you're still my therapist.

Appreciate, thank you.

Thank you.

No more Prozac.

Okay.

Bye Steven.
