Liber Psalmorum, Psalmi 121-150, Psalmus 136

Psalmus 136

4 Quomodo cantabimus canticum Domini in terra aliena ? 5 Si oblitus fuero tui, Jerusalem, oblivioni detur dextera mea.

We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof: 2: 3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; And that carried us, Sing us one of the songs. 4 Quomodo cantabimus canticum Domini in terra aliena ? 5 Si oblitus fuero tui, Jerusalem, oblivioni detur dextera mea. 5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand. 6 The tongue cleave to my palate if I do not remember thee If I make not Jerusalem the beginning of my joy. 7 Memor esto, Domine, filiorum Edom, in die Jerusalem : qui dicunt : Exinanite, exinanite usque ad fundamentum in ea. 7 Remember, Lord, rule by day, he said, Down, down to the ground. 8 Filia Babylonis misera ! 8 The daughter of Babylon! beatus qui retribuet tibi retributionem tuam quam retribuisti nobis. Happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us. 9 Beatus qui tenebit, et allidet parvulos tuos ad petram. 9 Blessed shall take and dash them against the rocks.
