To Want

‘to want’, which is jung ចង់. One point to note about the verb ‘to want’ is that it doesn't occur as a stand alone verb, it must have something following with it. In the case that that another verb follows it, then the word is simply used as it is. However, if there is no verb to follow it, the word ‘baan’ បាន is used. Lets have a look at some examples:

I want to go to his house – knyom jung dauh p'deah roboh go-ad ខ្ញុំ ចង់ ទៅ ផ្ទះ របស់ គាត់។

Notice that in this sentence the verb ‘to go’ follows the verb to want, and so ‘baan’ is not required. In the next example however, there is a noun following the verb ‘to want’, and so the word ‘baan’ is placed directly after the verb ‘to want’:

I want three – knyom jung baan baye ខ្ញុំ ចង់ បាន បី។
