聴き 耳 ずきん

むかし むかし 、周り を グルッと 山 で 囲まれた 山奥 に 、一人 の おじいさん が 住んで いました 。

おじいさん は 毎日 朝 に なる と 、しば を 入れる しょいこ を 背負い 山 へ 入って 行きました 。

そして 、一日中 しば を 刈って いる のです 。

今日 も しば を 一杯 背負い 、山 から 出て 来ました 。

「さて 、ボツボツ 帰る と する か 。 うん ？ あれ は 何 じゃ ？ 」

おじいさん が 帰ろう と する と 子ギツネ が 一匹 、一生懸命 木の実 を 取ろう と して いました 。

「はて 、キツネ で ねえ だ か 」

この 子 ギツネ 、足 が 悪い らしく 、いくら 頑張って も うまく 木 の 実 が 取れません 。

「よし よし 、わし が 取って やろう 。 ・・・よっこ ら しょ 。 さあ 、これ を お 食べ 。 それ じゃあ 、わし は 行く から な 」

子ギツネ は 、おじいさん の 親切 が よほど 嬉しかった の か 、いつまでも いつまでも 、おじいさん の 後ろ姿 を 見送って いました 。

そんな ある 日 、おじいさん は 町 へ 買い物 に 出かけました が 、帰り が すっかり 遅く なって しまいました 。

「急が なくて は 」

すっかり 暗く なった 日暮れ 道 を おじいさん が 急ぎ足 で やってきます と 、丘 の 上 で 子ギツネ が 待って いました 。

「あれ まあ 、こない だの キツネ で ねえ だ か 」

何やら 、しきりに おじいさん を 招いて いる 様子 です 。

おじいさん は 、キツネ の 後 を ついて 行きました 。

子ギツネ は 悪い 足 を 引きずり ながら 、一生懸命に おじいさん を どこ か へ 案内 しよう と して います 。

ついた ところ は 、竹やぶ の 中 の キツネ の 住みか でした 。

「ほう 、ここ が お前 の 家 か 」

キツネ の 家 に は お母さん ギツネ が おりました が 、病気 で 寝たきり の 様 です 。

お母さん ギツネ が 、何度 も 何度 も おじいさん に おじぎ を しています 。

息子 を 助けて もらった お礼 を 、言って いる 様 に 見えました 。

その うち 、奥 から 何やら 取り出して 来ました 。

それ は 、一枚 の 古ぼけた ずきん でした 。

「何やら 汚い ずきん じゃ が 、これ を わし に くれる と いう の か ね 。 では 、ありがたく 頂いて おこう 」

おじいさん は 、お礼 を 言って ずきん を 受け取る と 、元来た 道 を 一人 で 帰って 行きました 。

子ギツネ は 、いつまでも おじいさん を 見送りました 。

さて 、あくる 日 の 事 。

おじいさん が 庭 で まき を 割って います と 、ヒラリ と 、足元 に 何か が 落ちました 。

「これ は ゆんべ 、キツネ から もらった ずきん じゃ な 。 ・・・ちょっくら かぶって みる か 」

おじいさん は ずきん を かぶって 、また まき 割り を 始めました 。

すると 、

「家 の 亭主 と きたら 、一日中 、巣 の 中 で 寝て ばかり 。 今頃 は 、すっかり 太り 過ぎて 、飛ぶ の が しんどい なぞ と 言う とります の 」

「ほう 、痩せ の ちゅん 五郎 じゃった 、おたく の 亭主 が のう 」

何やら 聞いた 事 も ない 話し声 が 、おじいさん の 耳 に 聞こえて 来ました 。

「はて 、確かに 話し声 が した が 、誰 じゃ ろう ？ 」

家 の 中 を のぞいて 見ました が 、誰 も いま せん 。

「裏 林 のち ゅん 吉 が 、腹 が 痛くて すっかり 弱っとる そう じゃ 」

「それ は 、木 の 実 の 食べ過ぎ じゃあ 」

おじいさん は 、また 声 に 気 が つきました 。

「おかしい のう 。 誰 か 人 が いる ようじゃ が 、・・・やっぱり 誰 も おらん 」

おじいさん は 家 を グルリ と 一回り して 、ヒョイ と 上 を 見上げました 。

「 うん ？ もしかしたら 、この ずきん の せい で は 」

おじいさん は 、ずきん を 脱いだり かぶったり して みました 。

「やはり これ か 」

キツネ が くれた この ずきん は 、これ を かぶる と 動物 や 草 や 木 の 話し声 が 聞こえる と いう 、不思議な ずきん だった のです 。

おじいさん は キツネ が こんなに 大切な 物 を 自分 に くれた 事 を 、心から うれしく 思いました 。

さて 次の 日 から 、おじいさん は 山 へ 行く のが これまで よりも 、もっと もっと 楽しく なりました 。

ずきん を かぶって 山 へ 入る と 、小鳥 や 動物 たち の 話し声 が いっぱい 聞こえて きます 。

木 の 上 で 話している リス 。

みんな 楽し そうに 、話して います 。

おじいさん は 山 で しば を 刈り ながら 、小鳥 や 動物 の おしゃべり を 聞く のが 楽しくて 仕方 ありません 。

「わたしゃ 、喉 を 傷めて 、すっかり 歌 に 自信 が なくなっち まった 」

「 そんな 事 ございませ ん よ 。 とっても 良い お 声 です わ 」

「 そう か な 、 では 、 いっち ょう 歌おう か な 」

何 と 、虫 の 話し声 まで 聞こえる のです 。

おじいさん は こうして 、夜通し 虫たち の 歌声 に 耳 を 傾けて いました 。

一 人 暮らし の おじいさん も 、これ で 少し も さびしく ありません 。

そんな ある 日 の 事 。

おじいさん が 山 から しば を 背負って 下りて 来ます と 、木 の 上 で カラス が 二羽 、何やら しゃべって います 。

おじいさん は 聴き 耳 ずきん を 取り出して かぶり 、耳 を すまし ます と 、

「 長者 ( ちょうじゃ ) どん の 娘 が のう 」

「そう よ 、もう 長い 間 の 病気 で のう 。 この 娘 の 病気 は 、長者 どん の 庭 に うわっと る くすの木 の たたり じゃ そうな 」

「くす の 木 の たたり ？ 何で そんな 」

「さあ 、それ は くすの木 の 話 を 聞いて みん と のう 」

カラス の うわさ 話 を 聞いた おじいさん は 、さっそく 長者 の 家 を 尋ねました 。

長者 は 、本当に 困って いました 。

一 人 娘 が 、重い 病気 で 寝たきり だった から です 。

おじいさん は その 夜 、蔵 の 中 に 泊めて もらう 事 に しました 。

ずきん を かぶって 、待って います と 。

「 痛い よ ー 。 痛い よ ー 」

蔵 の 外 で 、くす の 木 の 泣き声 らしき もの が 聞こえます 。

くす の 木 に 、なぎ の 木 と 、松 の 木 が 声 を かけました 。

「どう しました 、くすの木 どん ？ 」

蔵 の 中 の おじいさん は 、くす の 木 たち の この 話 を 聞いて 、すっかり 安心 しました 。

次の 日 。

おじいさん は 、長者 に この 事 を 話しました 。

長者 は 、すぐに 蔵 の 場所 を 変える 事 に しました 。

それ から 何 日 かたって 、蔵 の 重み が 取れた くすの木 は 、元気 を 取り戻して 青い 葉 を いっぱいに 茂らせた のです 。

長者 の 娘 も 、すっかり 元気 に なりました 。

長者 は 大喜び で 、おじいさん に いっぱい の お宝 を あげました 。

「これ は 、キツネ が くれた ずきん の おかげ じゃ 。 キツネ の 好物 でも 買って やる べえ 」

おじいさん は キツネ の 大好きな 油あげ を 買って 、山道 を 帰って 行きました 。
