2.09 (V) Summary

[MUSIC] In this module, we explored developmental differences in autism across the lifespan. We began the discussion by stating the importance of early identification of autism, and then describe the stages of development and what to be aware of at each stage. We looked at parent perspectives about advocacy, and helping others understand the needs of people on the autism spectrum. Steve Ruder shared insights about the importance of self awareness and self disclosure. And I offer tips on engaging students to actively participate in their educational plans. We also heard from individuals on the autism spectrum as they navigated the transition to adulthood and independence. Our next module we'll look at patterns of strength and weakness associated with autism spectrum disorders, and how to capitalize on passions, interests, and strengths of those on the autism spectrum to help them to develop.
