Real Conversation #6: Family (Gabriel & Kevin)

Gabriel: Let's talk a little bit more then about… about your cousins.

I like to explore, you know, how the relationships work. I have an older brother, I haven't seen him in a long time. He's actually eight years older, and… but we had a really good relationship. He was a very nice older brother, he always took care of me and so on, and I'm guessing that is basically the same with you and your cousins because they probably look up to you, like you said before as a brotherly figure. So where do they live in Italy? Kevin: They live in Milan.

Gabriel: Ok, excellent!

Kevin: They live in Milan... uh... I wish I had the opportunity to see them more often.

I see them not as much as I'd like to, but when we do see each other I always try to give them advice about how to live their lives to the truest potential possible. And my advice follows—pretty much I just tell them to keep their priorities straight and understand that the habits they develop at a young age they carry on into their older years, and for them to establish good positive habits and eliminate the bad habits at a younger age will be a recipe for success for them. Gabriel: That's excellent advice.

Kevin: I'm trying to teach them how if we habitually do something, it becomes easy for us to do it.

For example, since the age of 14 I've been regularly going to the gym. My main motivation first was to lose weight; I was quite an obese kid. Gabriel: Really?

Kevin: Before, when I was 11 or 12 I was a bit fat. The kids would make fun of me at the play ground. I didn't like it. Gabriel: Crazy, ok!

Kevin: I started going to the gym and I developed a habit that no matter what, since 14 until now I've been consistent and persistent with the gym and if I do not go to the gym, I get in very bad moods and I have an overwhelming sense of guilt for having broken this habit that I'm essentially addicted to.

It's a positive addiction.
