Listening before sleeping
I have recently started to listen to my target language just before going to sleep.
So it's at the end of the day, I'm tired and I just feel like relaxing.
What's interesting is that when I'm getting ready to sleep I don't have this need to be entertained.
If I am listening to something in English, and I'm getting tired, it's easy for me to get distracted or annoyed.
I seem to demand a lot from the English content to keep my attention.
But in my target language, I'm not so judgemental.
It doesn't really bother me if the content isn't particularly interesting or engaging.
Because I'm just getting ready to sleep. So it doesn't bother me.
I don't end up putting any pressure on myself to pay attention either.
And maybe just because there isn't this pressure to listen carefully, I'm actually finding myself relaxing and enjoying it sometimes.
So maybe we don't learn a lot when we're sleepy, but it is extra time with my target language that I wouldn't get otherwise.
And right now, I'm trying to find podcasts, and other things to listen to, that are easy and realxing and are good for me to listen to while I'm just laying in bed ready to fall asleep.
