Не завидуй багатому,
Do not envy the rich,
Багатий не знає
The rich do not know
Ні приязні, ні любові —
No friendship, no love -
Nessuna amicizia, nessun amore -
Він все те наймає.
He hires all that.
Assume tutto ciò.
Не завидуй могучому,
Do not envy the mighty,
Бо той заставляє.
Because he forces.
Perché si impegna.
Не завидуй і славному,
Do not envy the glorious,
Славний добре знає,
Glorious knows well
Що не його люди люблять,
What his people don't like
А ту тяжку славу,
And that heavy glory,
E quella gloria pesante
Що він тяжкими сльозами
That he shed heavy tears
Вилив на забаву.
Poured for fun.
А молоді як зійдуться,
And how young people will come together,
Та любо та тихо,
Yes love and quiet,
Ma bello e tranquillo,
Як у раї, — а дивишся:
As in paradise - and you look:
Ворушиться лихо.
Move famously.
Не завидуй же нікому,
Do not envy anyone,
Non invidiare nessuno
Дивись кругом себе,
Look around you,
Нема раю на всій землі,
There is no paradise on earth,
Non c'è paradiso in terra,
Та нема й на небі.

Не женися на багатій,

Бо вижене з хати,
Because he was kicked out of the house,
Не женися на убогій,
Do not marry the poor,
Бо не будеш спати.
Because you will not sleep.
Оженись на вольній волі,
Marry at will,
На козацькій долі,
On the Cossack destiny,
Sul destino cosacco,
Яка буде, така й буде,
As it will be, so it will be,
Чи гола, то й гола.
Or naked, then naked.
Та ніхто не докучає
And no one bothers
І не розважає —
And not entertaining -
Чого болить і де болить,
What hurts and where it hurts,
Ніхто не питає.
Nobody asks.
Удвох, кажуть, і плакати
The two of them, they say, are crying
Мов легше неначе;
It seemed easier;
Не потурай: легше плакать,
Don't indulge: it's easier to cry,
Як ніхто не бачить.
As no one sees.
