The Fox and the Grapes

This story is by the Greek writer Aesop.

This story teaches us how not to think about things we can't have.

The sun is very hot.

A fox walks into the forest.

The fox is very thirsty!

He sees some grapes.

They are high up on a tree.

"I am so thirsty. I need those grapes!" says the fox.

The fox runs and jumps.

He cannot get the grapes.

The fox wants the grapes!

He runs and jumps again.

Then he runs and jumps again.

The fox does not get the grapes.

He cannot jump high.

He cannot get them.

The fox is sad.

He walks away.

"Those grapes must be sour!" says the fox.

"What do you think, my boy?" asks the teacher.

"Is what the fox says true?"

"The fox says that the grapes are sour," says the boy.

"But he doesn't know."

"Yes," says the teacher.

"He cannot get them, so he says that they are sour."

The teacher says, "There are some things that we cannot have."

"We want them. But we cannot have them. So we say that we do not want them."

"Do you do this?" asks the teacher.

"Think about it!"
