今天 我 想 跟 大家 聊聊 我 最近 看 的 一部 電影
Today I want to talk to you about a movie I watched recently
叫做 《媽的 多重 宇宙》
called "Mum's Multiverse" and
它 的 英文 片名 是《Everything Everywhere All at Once》。
its English title is《Everything Everywhere All at Once》。
我 覺得 這 可能 是 我 今年 看過 最 好看 的 電影 ！真的 很 推薦。
I think this might be the best movie I've seen this year! I strongly recommend it.
如果 你還 沒有 看過 這部 電影 ，不要 擔心 ，我 今天 沒有 要 劇透。
If you haven't seen the movie, don't worry, I'm not going to spoil it.
劇透 ，就是 透露 劇情 、跟 還沒看 電影 的 人講 劇情 的 意思，
ju4tou4 means to reveal the plot and telling the plot to people who haven't seen it
英文 就是 spoil the movie。
In English, it means spill the movie.
除了 劇透 ，你 也 可以 說 「爆雷(lit. trigger a landmine)」。
Besides ju4tou4, you can also say "bao4lei2" (lit. trigger a landmin).
如果 你 有 朋友 要 跟 你講 電影 的 劇情 但是 你 還沒看 的話，
If you have a friend who wants to tell you about a movie but you haven't seen it,
你 就 可以 說 ：「不要 跟 我 劇透 ！」或是 「不要 跟 我 爆雷！」
you can say, "Don't spoil it!"
另外 ，Youtube 上 不是 有 很多 那種 講 電影 影評 的 Youtuber 嗎？
Also, isn't there many YouTubers who talk about movie reviews on Youtube?
就是 那種 評論 電影 、或是 解釋 電影 是 什麼 意思 的 那種 Youtuber，
Like the kind of Youtubers who review movies, or explains what a movie means,
然後 他們 的 影片名稱 可能 就 會 寫 說 「有雷(lit. with landmines)」。
and then their video titles might say "you3lei2"
「有雷 」的 意思 就是「spoiler alert」
"you3lei2" means "spoiler alert"
相反 地 ，「無雷 」的 意思 就是「no spoilers」。
On the other hand, "wu2lei2" means "no spoilers".
所以 如果 你 還沒看 《媽的 多重 宇宙 》這部 電影 的話 ，你 可以 放心，
So if you haven't seen the movie "Everything Everywhere All at Once", I assure you that
今天 我 不會 跟 你 劇透 、我 不會 跟 你 爆雷。
I won't spoil the movie today.
首先 我 想來 講講 《媽的 多重 宇宙 》是 哪 一種 類型 的 電影。
First of all, I want to talk about which movie genre "Everything Everywhere All at Once" is in.
我 覺得 這 幾年 的 電影 越來越 難 被 分類，
I think it has become more and more difficult to classify movies these years.
有 越來越 多 電影 可以 被 分到 很 多種 的 電影 類型，
There are more and more movies that can be classified into a variety of movie genres,
像是 今天 我們 講的 《媽的 多重 宇宙 》就是 這樣。
Like the movie, "Everything Everywhere All at Once" we are talking about today.
這部 電影 一定 會 讓 你 哈哈大笑 ，所以 它 一定 可以 算是 喜劇片(comedy)。
This movie is sure to make you laugh, so it must be a comedy.
它 也 在講 一個 美國 亞裔 家庭 的 故事，
t also tells the story of an Asian American family
裡面 討論 很多 夫妻 之間 的 關係 、還有 母女 之間 的 關係，
It discusses a lot of the relationship between husband and wife, as well as the relationship between mother and daughter. There are
很多 地方 都 會 讓 你 想 哭 ，所以 它 也 可以 算是 親情片(family drama)。
There are many scenes that will make you want to cry, so it can also be regarded as a family drama.
就 像 片名 一樣 ，裡面 有 出現 一些 高科技 還有 一些 科學 的 理論，
Just like the title of the movie, there are some high-tech and some scientific theories involved
所以 它 也 可以 算是 科幻片(sci-fi)。
so it can also be regarded as a sci-fi movie.
還有 這部 電影 也 是 在講 一個 平凡 的 媽媽 怎麼 成為 超級 英雄 拯救 世界，
And this movie is also about how an ordinary mom becomes a superhero to save the world,
所以 它 也 可以 算是 超級 英雄 片(superhero movies)。
so it can also be regarded as a superhero movie
那因 為 它 是 超級 英雄 片 ，這部 片裡面 也 有 很多 武打 場景，
And because it's a superhero movie, and it has a lot of fighting scenes
所以 它 一定 可以 算是 動作片(action movies)。
so it must be considered an action movie.
但是 他 不 像 現在 很多 動作片 都 是 賽車 啊 、用 槍 之類 的 武器 來 打架 啊，
But it's not like a lot of action movies these days, which are all about racing cars and fighting with guns and other weapons.
他 主要 都 是 用 李小龍 (Bruce Lee)的 那種 武術 (martial arts) 來 打架，
It mainly uses martial arts to fight like those Bruce Lee movies,
所以 它 也 可以 算是 功夫片(kung fu movies)。
so it can also be regarded as a kung fu movie.
這部 片 真的 融合 太 多 元素 (elements)了，
This film really incorporates too many elements, and
我 光是 這樣 跟 你們 講就 覺得 很 精彩 、很 想 再 看一遍。
Introducing this movie like this alone exites me and makes me want to watch it again.
那 另外 一個 也 會 讓 你 很 喜歡 這部 電影 的 原因 是 它 很多 幕 (scenes)都 在 向 其他 很 經典 的 電影 致敬。
The other thing that will make you love this movie is that many of its scenes pay homage to other classic movies
向 ...致敬 ，就是 英文 的 pay tribute to，意思 就是 表示 敬意。
"xiang4 ... zhi4 jing4" means "pay tribute to" in English. It means to show respect。
如果 我們 說 一部 電影 在 向 另 一部 電影 致敬 的話，
If we say that a movie pays homage to another movie,
意思 就是說 這部 電影 有 一些 橋段 (scenes)使用 了 另外 一部 電影 的 元素，
It means the movie has some scenes that use elements of another movie,
讓 觀眾 看 了 就 會 聯想 到 另外 一部 電影。
so that the audience will think of another movie after watching it.
那 這部 電影 在 致敬 的 對象 我 印象 最 深刻 的 是 《駭客 任務 the Matrix》。
The movie that this movie pays tribute to is "The Matrix." And it left a great impression on me.
還有 另外 一個 很 好笑 的 橋段 是 在 向 一部 也 是 很 經典 的 電影 致敬，
There is another funny scene that pays homage to a movie that is also very classic,
那 部 電影 是 《2001太空 漫遊 2001: A Space Odyssey》
which is "2001: A Space Odyssey"
因為 我 不想 跟 你 劇透 ，所以 我 還是 不要 透露 太多 好 了。
I don't want to spoil the movie, so I won't reveal too much.
再來 我 也 想 講講 這部 電影 的 中文 片名 《媽的 多重 宇宙》。
Next, I would also like to talk about the Mandarin title of thiw film.
台灣 在 翻譯 國外 電影 的 片名 的 時候 通常 都 不會 根據 原文 的 片名 翻譯。
When translating the titles of foreign films, Taiwan usually doesn't translate them according to the original titles.
一方面 可能 是 很 難 翻譯 的 關係，
On the one hand, it may be because it's difficult to translate, and
另一方面 也 有 可能 是 如果 我們 照著 原文 片名 直 翻過來 的話 台灣 人會 看不懂。
on the other hand, it may be that if we translate them literally based on the original title, Taiwanese won't be able to understand what they're about.
像是 《媽的 多重 宇宙 》的 原文 片名 是《Everything Everywhere All at Once》，
For example, the original title is "Everything Everywhere All at Once".
如果 直 翻成 「所有 東西 所有 地方 同時 在 一起」，
If we literally translates it,
我 覺得 不會 有人 看得懂 ，也 不會 有人 想 去 看 這部 電影。
I don't think anyone will understand it, and no one will want to go watch this movie.
那 我 覺得 這次 中文 的 片名 取得 很 好，
So I think the Mandarin title did a good job this time,
因為 它 同時 有 表達 出 電影 的 內容 ，又 會 讓 人 會心一笑。
because it shows what this movie is about, and at the same time, it makes people smile.
會心一笑 的 意思 就是 了解 意思 之後 會 讓 你 笑 出來。
hui4xin1yi2xiao4 means something makes you laugh after knowing the meaning of it.
為 什麼 我 說 它 會 讓 人 會心一笑 呢 ？如果 你 不 懂 的話 我來 跟 你 解釋。
Why do I say it makes people smile? If you don't get it, I'll explain it to you.
《媽的 多重 宇宙 》這個 名字 之所以 好笑 是 因為 它 有 兩種 意思。
The reason that the Mandarin title is funny is because it has two meanings
第一種 意思 就是 「媽媽 的 多重 宇宙 」，英文 就是「Mum's Multiverse」。
The first meaning is "Mum's Multiverse."
這個 意思 很 正常 也 很 合理 ，因為 這部 電影 就是 在講 一個 媽媽 在 不同 的 宇宙 有 不同 的 人生。
The meaning is normal and reasonable, because this movie is about a mother who has different lives in different universes.
另外 一個 意思 就是 「他媽的 ！多重 宇宙」，
Another meaning is "F**k you! Multiverse."
我 不想 在 這裡講 英文 F 開頭 的 那個 字 (Fk)，所以 我 就 翻成「Curse you! Multiverse」。
I don't want to say the word that starts with F, so I translate it to "Curse you! Multiverse."
「媽的 」或是 「他媽的 」在 中文 是 一個 髒話，
"ma1de" or "ta1ma1de" is a swear word in Mandarin
你 也 有 可能 會 聽到 有人 說 「他 馬 (ma3)的」。
you may also hear someone say ta1ma3de
反正 「他媽的 」或是 「媽的 」有滿 多種 用法 的，
Anyway, "ma1de" or "ta1ma1de" can be used in many ways,
但是 這裡 的 意思 就 跟 「curse you」或是 「screw you」差不多。
but the meaning here is similar to "curse you" or "screw you".
那 這個 意思 也 很 符合 這部 電影 ，因為 多重 宇宙 的確 帶給 主角 這位 媽媽 很多 麻煩。
This meaning also suits this movie, because the multiverse does bring a lot of trouble to the protagonist aka the mom.
我 這樣 解釋 之後 你 應該 知道 為 什麼 這部 電影 的 片名 會 讓 人 會心一笑 了 吧？
After I explain it, you should know why the title of this movie makes people smile, right?
我 每次 講 《媽的 多重 宇宙 》我 都 差一點 笑 出來 ，因為 太 好笑 了 ，感覺 好像 自己 在講 髒話 一樣。
Every time I say the movie title, I almost laugh because it's so funny, it feels like I'm swearing.
最後 我 想來 分享 一下 我 看 完 這部 電影 的 一些 感想。
Finally, I would like to share some of my thoughts after watching this movie.
我會 這麼 喜歡 這部 電影 另 一個 原因 是 因為 它 看 了 會 讓 人 很 有 感觸，
Another reason why I like this movie so much is because I can relate to it,
它會 引起 一些 共鳴，
it resonates with me,
因為 電影 在 探討 的 問題 跟 我 平常 面對 的 問題 、或是 過去 面對 的 問題 很 像。
because the issues the movie is discussing are similar to the issues I'm facing, or have faced in the past.
映画が議論している問題は、私が普段直面している、または過去に直面した問題と非常に似ているからです。
其中 一個 是 電影 裡面 母女 之間 的 關係。
One of them is the relationship between mother and daughter in the movie.
大家 可能 知道 亞洲 家庭 通常 都 會 比較 保守 一點 ，台灣 的 家庭 也 像 這樣。
You may know that Asian families are usually a bit more conservative, and Taiwanese families are like that too.
父母 不太 擅長 對 小孩 表現 出 他們 的 愛，
Parents are not very good at showing their love to their children,
更 不用說 家人 彼此之間 說 「我愛你 」這 三個 字 ，真的 不太可能。
let alone family members saying the three words "I love you" to each other, it's really unlikely.
家族がお互いに「愛してる」と言うという事実は言うまでもありません。
中文 有 一個 諺語 「愛在 心裡 口難開 」就是 這種 意思，
There is a Chinese saying just like this, "you love someone with all your heart, but you keep your mouth shut."
中国のことわざに「愛は心に開きにくい」という意味がありますが、
我們 雖然 很 愛 對方 ，可是 從來 都 不會 說出 口。
Although we love the person very much, we never say it out loud.
那台灣 的 父母 就 很 常用 「管教 (discipline)小孩 」的 方式 來 表現 他們 的 愛。
Parents in Taiwan often "discipline their children" to show their love.
我 自己 的 經驗 就是 這樣。
My experience is like this too.
我 小時候 最常 被講 的 就是 「讀書 有沒有 認真？」、
When I was a child, the most common questions I was asked were, "did you study hard?"
「這次 考試 考 第幾名 ？」、「太瘦 了 吃 多一點！」
"where did you place in your class in the exam?" or "You're too skinny. Eat more!"
小時候 我超 討厭 被問 這些 問題 的 ，我 就 會 覺得 爸媽 只在乎 我 的 成績 還有 外表、
I hated when they said these. I felt like what they cared about was my grades and my look
他們 不在乎 我 內心 在 想 什麼，
instead of how I felt in my mind
甚至 會 讓 我 覺得 我 是不是 永遠 都 做 得 不夠 好。
It even made me think I was never doing well enough.
但是 長大 之後 才 會 了解 爸媽 會 這樣 說 應該 只是 想 表達 他們 的 關心 、還有 他們 的 愛吧？
But only after I grew up, I could understand my parents would say these things just to show they care and to show their love.
那 另外 一個 也 讓 我 很 有 感觸 、很 有 共鳴 的 點是 這部 電影 在 探討 人生 有 什麼 意義 、什麼樣 的 人生 才 是 成功 的 人生。
Another point that also touched and resonated with me was that this film explored the meaning of life and what kind of life is a successful life
我 到 現在 都還 常常 在 思考 這些 問題 ，也 常常 會 思考 自己 做 的 選擇 是不是 對 的。
I still often think about these questions, and often think about whether the choices I made are the right ones.
有時候 面對 這些 問題 我 真的 很想 變成 不會 思考 的 東西 ，我 最常 說 的話 就是：
Sometimes when faced with these questions I really want to be something that can't think, and the thing I say most often is:
「我 好 想 變成 一顆 石頭 ，這樣 我 就 不用 思考 了。」
"I really want to be a rock so I don't have to think."
看 完 這部 電影 讓 我 覺得 ：「原來 我 不是 唯一 一個 想 變成 石頭 的 人 ！原來 我 不 孤單！」
after watching this movie, I thought "So I'm not the only one who wants to be turned into a rock! So I'm not alone!"
