The Princess and the Pea
This is an old story by Hans Christian Andersen.
It's a story about a prince looking for a princess to marry.
The prince is not happy.
He wants to marry a princess.
He looks everywhere.
He cannot find a princess.
He meets many princesses.
Some are too old.
Some are too small or too big.
Some are not beautiful.
One day, a girl comes to his castle.
It is raining.
"I'm a princess," she says.
"I need a bed."
The prince likes the girl.
But he does not think she is a princess.
He has an idea.
The prince makes a bed for her.
He puts a pea under 23 mattresses!
The next morning, the prince talks to the girl.
"I am black and blue," she says.
"Your bed is so hard."
The prince thinks, "Only a princess can feel the pea under those mattresses! Only a princess is so soft."
He asks, "Will you marry me?"
The prince and his princess take the pea to a museum.
Now everyone can see it.
