Hello, I am Justine and today I'm with

Hi guys, I'm Aliyah.

Today we are playing Guess the

Character.

A couple of weeks ago, I played Guess

the Character with Sam. And as the

winner, I challenged Aliyah to another

episode. So, welcome to another episode.

Thank you. Yeah, I'm excited to try this

game because it involves a lot more

questions, right? You have like 20 or 21

chances to guess the right character.

That's right.

So, we'll keep track of how many

questions we've asked and we'll see

who's the winner.

Do you want to ask first?

» Uh, sure. Yeah, I'll do that.

» Okay, go ahead. Is the character

a animal?

» Yes.

» Okay. Um, is the character a

mammal?

No.

» Okay.

Um, is the character

a

fish?

» Yes.

» Okay. Okay, [laughter] that narrows

things down. Um, is the character from

Finding Nemo?

[laughter]

» Yes.

» Um, is it Dory?

» No.

» Nemo?

Yes. [laughter]

» Very good. Yeah.

» Wow. That was

» I I'm I'm I realized after doing this

and thinking about these games for a bit

that I'm kind of a movie person.

» Right. Right. Okay. So, and those were

very good questions to get to the right

answer. So, that was only five questions

and then you guessed who it was. So,

that is amazing. [laughter]

Or maybe it was six. I don't know. But

I'm probably not going to do any better.

So, [laughter]

we'll see. We'll see. I I have faith in

you. I I picked some I picked a mix of

like I think easy and and one maybe a

little more difficult. So, we'll see how

it goes.

» Okay. Okay. We'll see. I have my first

um character in mind.

Okay. So, is your character a human?

» No.

» Okay. Is your character an animal?

» Yes.

» Okay.

Is your character

a big animal?

» Yes, I would say so. Yeah.

» Okay. Is your character a mammal?

» No.

» Okay.

Is your character

a

swims in the ocean?

» No.

» Okay.

Is your character

a

um reptile?

» Yes.

» Okay.

Is your character from

a

um

I guess

I don't know what I'm trying to ask cuz

it's a cartoon character, right?

» Yeah, it's a it's from an animated

movie. Yeah.

» Okay. Is your character a dinosaur? No.

Okay.

A reptile that's big, but it's not a

dinosaur.

H.

Does your reptile

have

friends of a different species?

» Yes, definitely.

Okay.

Um,

now I'm trying to think of movies with a

group of friends that are all different

species,

but I'm not sure.

Uh,

» yeah, I can

» I'm blanking. [laughter]

» Can I can put you a little bit closer on

the right path. um

that it's not like a mixed group of

species. Um it's more like this

character spends a lot of time with a

group of another species.

» M okay. Okay. So it's

two species but maybe a bunch of

different friends together.

» Okay.

reptiles [sighs]

and another type of friend.

Um, I think I think I should probably

also add that this is also open to

characters that are not uh that don't

exist in real life. So, it is a reptile,

but I don't want you to think that it's

like an animal that has to exist on

Earth.

» Oh, right. Okay. So, is it a dragon?

» Yes.

» Okay. [laughter] Okay. That helped me a

little bit.

» Yeah. I was like, "Oh, okay. We're we're

going down this path and I like I don't

want it to be taken too literally, you

know."

» Yeah. Yes. Okay. So, dragons.

Um I think I only know one dragon movie.

So, is it from How to Train Your Dragon?

» Yes. Okay. Thank goodness. Now, I don't

know the name, but is it the black

dragon that's the main one?

» Yes, it's the main dragon. Yeah, good

job. Um, his name is Toothless.

[cheering]

» Yeah.

» Okay, thank you. [laughter]

» I was like, okay. Yeah, I'm You have to

know this movie for sure. Um, obviously

dragons are in a lot of different, you

know, types of media, but I was like,

this is this is one I can only think of

one children's movie that has a dragon.

» Yes. Well, thank you for the big hint of

the Makebelie animal. I appreciate it.

[gasps]

» No problem. Okay, I have Oh, that was 11

questions. Okay, that's pretty good.

» So, Aliyah won this round, but we both

have one more character. So, I have my

next character in mind ready to go. So,

Aliyah, go ahead with your questions.

» Okay. Uh, is the character a

human being?

» No.

» Okay. Um,

are they an animal?

» No.

Okay. Um, are they a

machine?

» Yes.

» Okay. Are they a robot?

» Yes. [laughter]

» Um, I'm just going to go for it. Is it

Wall-E?

» Yes. [laughter]

[laughter]

» Amazing.

» I had Wall-E in mind as like one of my

options. So, ah,

» um, I decided like I'll save it for

another time, but it was like at the top

of mind, you know.

» Yeah. Yeah, I get that. Okay. Well, that

was four questions and then you guessed

it. So, amazing. [laughter]

» Thank you.

» Good job.

» Thanks. Um, okay. So, I have um my next

character in mind.

» Okay. Is your character an animal?

» Yes.

» Okay.

Is your character a fantasy type animal?

» Yes.

» Okay.

Um, is your character a

h animal that's kind of humanoid?

» Yeah.

» Okay.

» Great question. Wow.

» Okay. [laughter]

Okay. Now I'm trying to think. What

would be considered an animal?

Things like

fairies and elves don't really seem like

animals to me, but they're also not

humans. So, let me think.

Um,

is your character a

H?

I don't know. That question sounds like

a good question, but now I don't know

what else to ask.

[laughter]

An animal that's kind of humanoid.

» Yeah, it's Yeah, this this was my

tougher one for sure.

» Okay.

Um,

is your animal a

furry animal? No.

» Okay. Does your animal have scales?

» Yeah, they they would have scales.

» Okay. Scales and humanoid.

Is your animal a

monster.

» No.

» Okay. Is your animal

the main character of the movie?

» Yeah. Yeah, they're they're one of the

main characters.

» Okay. Okay. One of the main characters.

Is this a large animal?

» No, relatively small.

» Okay.

Okay.

H.

Not a puppet because that's not an

animal.

Uh,

not a

like most mammals are not really

humanoid. So, it's not a mammal.

Um,

is it something like an elf or a fairy?

It's

kind of like that. I I mean I would It's

not It's not one of those things, but

there is magic involved.

Okay.

H

a magical scaly humanoid animal.

I'm sure that many people watching

already know what this is and it's

torture for them to watch me [laughter]

be clueless.

» Yeah, I I hope I stumped them, too.

» Okay. Well, we'll see. Um

Okay, I'm at nine questions. I don't

know if it's

um time for some time for some

bigger questions like is it a movie

about magic or just this one character

is magical?

Huh? That's a tough question. I feel

like

I feel like magic is a big part of the

movie, a big part of the environment in

the movie. Um, it really focuses on this

one character, but um, technically like

yeah, magic exists in the in the

environment.

» Okay. Okay. And is it set on Earth or in

a different planet?

» It is set on Earth.

» Okay.

And is it a adventure movie?

H

they're using magic on an adventure.

No, not not really. Not in the sense

that I think you're asking about like a

typical adventure movie. Um I would I

would say no.

» Okay.

Is the movie

uh was the movie made

say before the year 2000?

» No.

» Okay. So, it's

fairly recent in the last 25 years.

Okay.

Um,

what else could I ask?

Is the character

does it have a gender? A male gender,

let's say.

» No.

» Okay.

Does it have a female gender?

» Yes.

» Okay. [clears throat]

Okay. So, she is a humanoid animal with

scales

and magic.

Oh, I feel [laughter] like it's going to

be very obvious

when you finally tell me. I'm at 15

questions.

» Mhm. What's the total number of

questions? Is it 20 or 21?

» Okay, 20, I think. 20. And then you can

guess the character for the 20 like the

21st question.

» Got it. I think you can do it. I think

you can do it. Maybe um you have um you

have kids, right?

» Yeah.

» Okay. I you probably would have shown

this movie to your kids. I

» I guess it's possible you haven't, but

» Right. I

» think it's something you'd probably show

them.

» Okay. Um

I can't

think of anything else even to ask.

Um,

does your animal

sing?

» No, I don't think so.

» Okay, there's no singing. Okay.

Is it based on Is the movie based on a

story or a book?

» I don't think so. I think it was an

original story.

» Okay.

Does your character have

a family?

» Yes.

» Okay.

Uh,

is the

movie taking place in a forest?

No.

Okay,

now I'm at 19 questions. I think I need

a tiny little hint. Can you think about

a hint?

» Yeah, definitely. Um,

it is a Japanese movie.

Okay,

my daughter watches a lot of Studio

Gibli movies, but I have never watched

them with her.

» So, I don't know.

» Okay. So, yeah. Hopefully hopefully you

know at least the title.

» Okay.

Okay. Well, the only thing I really know

is that

Spirited Away is something about pigs.

[laughter]

» Is it from that movie?

» No. That is one of my favorite movies. U

But no.

» Okay. Okay. Well, I'm I have to give up

because I don't know anything about

those movies and I don't think I will

know what the character is. Okay. Okay.

So, the character is Po.

» Okay.

» Movie is also called Ponyo.

» Okay.

» Um, basically she is a little fish.

[laughter] She's a little fish girl and

her dad is like a um wizard

» and she um decides that she wants to be

human because she meets like a little

boy. um they live on an island. Um and

so she, you know, she lives near the

island in the ocean and um she is able

to turn into a little girl. Um and uh

but she also still like sometimes

reverts back to being a fish. It kind of

depends on her emotions.

» Okay.

» And so it's kind of more of a coming of

age like type of story where she's

deciding, you know, who she wants to be.

Ah, yes.

» You know, there's like adventure

elements. I I felt like I couldn't

really say yes to that question because

they didn't, you know, go travel

» somewhere to find something or discover

something. It was really more

» focusing on the coming of age part.

» Yeah, that sounds like a good one.

» Yeah. And I have to say, I highly

recommend you watch some Studio Gibli

films with your daughter because they

are excellent.

Okay. R Yeah, she she talks about the

the environments a lot and what what she

likes about them, but she hasn't talked

about the the story lines. So, I don't

know anything about that. So, yes, I

will have to watch them with her. Thank

you for the recommendation.

» Yeah, of course. So, now Aliyah, you won

both rounds. So, it's your turn to

challenge somebody else at English

sponge to a guess the character match.

Okay. So, you have to think about who

you're going to talk to next and we'll

be watching to see if you also win the

next round.

» Um, so I think what I'm going to do is

challenge AJ to

» I guess the character game.

» Okay. We'll see if he accepts the

challenge.

» Yes.

» Great. Thank you so much for being here

today, Aliyah. And we'll see you soon.

» Thank you. Thanks so much for the for

the game. It was super fun and I'm of

course I'm glad that I won again.

[laughter]

» Yes. Great. Okay. Bye-bye. Thanks,

» Justine. Bye.
