Short Travel Stories - Learn English with Camille, Crying over Chinese food

Crying over Chinese food

When I was 19, I took my first overseas trip to Europe, with my husband Calvin. Americans dream of traveling Europe, especially the big cities like London, Paris, and Rome. We were in Paris and because of jet-lag happened to be up at the crack of dawn. We decided to go exploring early. We didn't even mean to, but we accidentally took the metro to where the Eiffel tower was and saw just a small line of people already waiting. We decided to get in line, to go to the top of the tower. It was luck that we got there early, because by the time we got back down, there were hundreds of people waiting. I remember buying a mini Eiffel tower while we were in the Eiffel tower, which I still have today. After wandering around for a while, we were starting to get hungry. Calvin and I aren't very good at choosing a restaurant when we are hungry. For some reason we just keep walking and thinking, there has got to be a better place. Well, finally we couldn't stand it anymore, we settled for Chinese, because we weren't very cultured and Chinese food seemed like a safe choice. Because in America, it's pretty standard and you will know what to expect. Well, in Paris, it most definitely wasn't. I don't even remember what we ordered but I was so grossed out that I couldn't even eat it. I was so embarrassed when the waiter came over. He felt bad too, asking if we wanted something else. I must have been extra tired because I started to cry over the Chinese food.
