ESOL and New Scots stories, A Visit to Edinburgh

A Visit to Edinburgh

Last week, my sons and I travelled to Edinburgh to visit my friends who live there. It's a beautiful city and very different from the towns in Ayrshire. The buildings are taller and older. The streets are more crowded. You can see people from many different countries and hear many different languages in the streets. I heard French, Spanish, Polish and some other languages I didn't know.

We visited many places. First, we visited the Scottish parliament. I was surprised because it's not an old building. My friend told me it was built in 1999. I see Nicola Sturgeon on the TV a lot, but I didn't see her at the parliament.

After, we walked up the Royal Mile. The Royal Mile is the name of the long street between the parliament and the castle. At the castle, there were many tourists with cameras. There was also a tour guide who had a kilt. He told us that the castle is over 900 years old. It's a lot older than the parliament! I took a photo of him with my son.

Near the castle, there were many tourist shops. In the shops, they played Scottish music. I didn't like it because it was too loud! I bought a tartan scarf for my daughter and a postcard of the city.

After we visited Arthur's Seat. It's a big hill. My sons walked to the top of the hill, but I stayed at the bottom. They took lots of photographs at the top. You can see all the city from the top of the hill.

We had a wonderful day, and it didn't rain once!
