Listening to Songs on LingQ
Hey, guys! So recently I've been experimenting with listening and reading songs using LingQ.
And I started doing this because I was thinking about language learning and I was thinking about what Steve says a lot about how variety and repetition is important for language learning.
When I thought about the content I've been using on LingQ recently, I have found it interesting but I haven't been re-reading or re-listening to the same content. So I haven't really been getting much repetition in my learning.
And I thought, "Okay, how can I get more repetition in my learning, because what I'm currently doing isn't working?"
And I tried to think about, "Well, what sort of content do I use and repeatedly listen or read it many times?"
That lead me to thinking about music.
So I thought, "Okay, well, what if I import some songs and lyrics into LingQ and see what happens."
And, actually, it's been working quite well.
Naturally, we listen to our favourite songs over and over again anyway.
Now when I want to listen to a particular song, I will open it on the LingQ app on my phone and...
The good thing is I can read along.
And also as I've been learning the lyrics, I can start singing along more and it doesn't really feel like a language learning task.
It just feels like something I do because I want to be able to sing along to the song more easy and learn the lyrics.
Because I'm more focused on being able to sing along, I'm not necessarily worried about remembering what each word means.
I just... I guess I'm more focussed on remembering on how to say it and sing along but I have found that naturally everytime I listen to a song, I am picking up more and more of the meanings of the words as well.
So I've been having fun with it.
I encourage you to try it as well.
It's a very easy way, so far, to get more listening and reading in.
Especially if you're struggling with meeting your targets on LingQ, I think it's a great way.
And, yeah, it's really fun. So give it a go!
