Evangelium secundum Ioannem, Caput 14

Caput 14

1 Non turbetur cor vestrum.

Creditis in Deum, et in me credite. Philippe, qui videt me, videt et Patrem. Quomodo tu dicis : Ostende nobis Patrem ? 10 Non creditis quia ego in Patre, et Pater in me est ? Verba quæ ego loquor vobis, a meipso non loquor. Pater autem in me manens, ipse fecit opera.

25 Hæc locutus sum vobis apud vos manens. 26 Paraclitus autem Spiritus Sanctus, quem mittet Pater in nomine meo, ille vos docebit omnia, et suggeret vobis omnia quæcumque dixero vobis.

27 Pacem relinquo vobis, pacem meam do vobis : non quomodo mundus dat, ego do vobis. Surgite, eamus hinc.

Caput 14 Kapitel 14 Chapter 14 Capítulo 14

1 Non turbetur cor vestrum. 1 Let not your heart be troubled.

Creditis in Deum, et in me credite. You believe in God, and believe in me. 2 In domo Patris mei mansiones multæ sunt ; si quominus dixissem vobis : quia vado parare vobis locum. 2 In my Father's house there are many mansions; if I had told you why: because I am going to prepare a place for you. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself: so that where I am, you may also be. 4 Et quo ego vado scitis, et viam scitis. 4 And you know where I am going, and you know the way. 5 Dicit ei Thomas : Domine, nescimus quo vadis : et quomodo possumus viam scire ? 5 Thomas says to him: Sir, we do not know where you are going, and how can we know the way? Thomas said to him, "Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?" 6 Dicit ei Jesus : Ego sum via, et veritas, et vita. 6 Jesus said to him: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. Nemo venit ad Patrem, nisi per me. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 Si cognovissetis me, et Patrem meum utique cognovissetis : et amodo cognoscetis eum, et vidistis eum. 7 If you had known me, you would certainly have known my Father: and you would have known him and seen him. 8 Philip says to him: Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us. 9 Dicit ei Jesus : Tanto tempore vobiscum sum, et non cognovistis me ? 9 Jesus said to him: I have been with you so long, and you have not known me? Philippe, qui videt me, videt et Patrem. Philip, who sees me, sees the Father also. Quomodo tu dicis : Ostende nobis Patrem ? How do you say: Show us the Father? 10 Non creditis quia ego in Patre, et Pater in me est ? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me? Verba quæ ego loquor vobis, a meipso non loquor. The words that I speak to you, I do not speak from myself. Pater autem in me manens, ipse fecit opera. But the Father, abiding in me, did the works himself. 11 Non creditis quia ego in Patre, et Pater in me est ? 11 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me? 12 alioquin propter opera ipsa credite. 12 Otherwise, believe because of the works themselves. or else, believe because of the works themselves Amen, amen dico vobis, qui credit in me, opera quæ ego facio, et ipse faciet, et majora horum faciet : quia ego ad Patrem vado. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, I will do it: that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 Si quid petieritis me in nomine meo, hoc faciam. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

15 If you love me, keep my commandments: 16 and I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Paraclete, to remain with you forever, 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see him, nor knows him: but you will know him , because he will remain with you and be in you. 18 Non relinquam vos orphanos : veniam ad vos. 18 I will not leave you orphans: I will come to you. 19 Adhuc modicum, et mundus me jam non videt. 19 Yet a little while, and the world no longer sees me. In a little while the world will no longer see me Vos autem videtis me : quia ego vivo, et vos vivetis. You can see me because I live, ye shall live. but you will see me, because I live and you will live. 20 In illo die vos cognoscetis quia ego sum in Patre meo, et vos in me, et ego in vobis. 21 Qui habet mandata mea, et servat ea : ille est qui diligit me. 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them: he is he that loveth me. Qui autem diligit me, diligetur a Patre meo : et ego diligam eum, et manifestabo ei meipsum. And he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I too will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22 Dicit ei Judas, non ille Iscariotes : Domine, quid factum est, quia manifestaturus es nobis teipsum, et non mundo ? 22 Judas, not the Iscariot, said to him, "Master, (then) what happened that you will reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" 23 Respondit Jesus, et dixit ei : Si quis diligit me, sermonem meum servabit, et Pater meus diliget eum, et ad eum veniemus, et mansionem apud eum faciemus ; 24 qui non diligit me, sermones meos non servat. 23 Jesus answered and said to him: If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our abode with him; 24 He who does not love me does not keep my words. Et sermonem, quem audistis, non est meus : sed ejus qui misit me, Patris. yet the word you hear is not mine but that of the Father who sent me. 25 Hæc locutus sum vobis apud vos manens. I have told you this while I am with you. 26 Paraclitus autem Spiritus Sanctus, quem mittet Pater in nomine meo, ille vos docebit omnia, et suggeret vobis omnia quæcumque dixero vobis. 26 And the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and will suggest to you all that I shall say to you.

27 Pacem relinquo vobis, pacem meam do vobis : non quomodo mundus dat, ego do vobis. 27 Peace I leave with you, I give you my peace: not as the world gives, I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor be afraid. 28 You have heard that I said to you: I am going, and I am coming to you. Si diligeretis me, gauderetis utique, quia vado ad Patrem : quia Pater major me est.29 Et nunc dixi vobis priusquam fiat : ut cum factum fuerit, credatis.30 Jam non multa loquar vobiscum : venit enim princeps mundi hujus, et in me non habet quidquam.31 Sed ut cognoscat mundus quia diligo Patrem, et sicut mandatum dedit mihi Pater, sic facio. If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. 30 I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me, 31 but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me. Surgite, eamus hinc. Get up, let's get out of here.
