Evangelium secundum Marcum, Marcum, Capitulum 15

Marcum, Capitulum 15

At ille respondens, ait illi : Tu dicis. 12 Pilatus autem iterum respondens, ait illis : Quid ergo vultis faciam regi Judæorum ? 13 At illi iterum clamaverunt : Crucifige eum. 14 Pilatus vero dicebat illis : Quid enim mali fecit ? At illi magis clamabant : Crucifige eum.

1 And immediately in the morning, the chief priests, taking counsel with the ancients, and the scribes, and the whole council, binding Jesus, led him away, and delivered him to Pilate. 2 Et interrogavit eum Pilatus : Tu es rex Judæorum ? At ille respondens, ait illi : Tu dicis. But he answering, said to him: You say it. 3 Et accusabant eum summi sacerdotes in multis. 3 And the chief priests accused him of many things. 4 Pilatus autem rursum interrogavit eum, dicens : Non respondes quidquam ? And Pilate again questioned him, saying: Answerest thou nothing? vide in quantis te accusant. Look at how many they accuse you. 5 But Jesus answered nothing more, so that Pilate was amazed. 6 Now on the feast day he was wont to release to them one of the prisoners, whomsoever they should ask. And there was one who was called Barabbas, who was bound with the insurrectionists, who had committed murder in the insurrection. 8 And when the crowd had gone up, he began to pray, as he always did to them. 10 For he knew that for envy the chief priests had delivered him up. 11 Pontifices autem concitaverunt turbam, ut magis Barabbam dimitteret eis. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to release Barabbas rather to them. 12 Pilatus autem iterum respondens, ait illis : Quid ergo vultis faciam regi Judæorum ? 13 At illi iterum clamaverunt : Crucifige eum. But they again cried out: Crucify him. 14 Pilatus vero dicebat illis : Quid enim mali fecit ? At illi magis clamabant : Crucifige eum. 15 And Pilate, desiring to satisfy the people, released Barabbas to them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

16 And the soldiers led him into the court of the guard, and assemble the whole cohort; 17 And they clothed him in purple, and plaited a crown of thorns and put it on him. 18 Et cœperunt salutare eum : Ave rex Judæorum. 19 Et percutiebant caput ejus arundine : et conspuebant eum, et ponentes genua, adorabant eum. 19 And they struck him on the head with a reed, and spit on him, and bowing their knees, worshiped him.

21 And they forced one Simon a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, who was passing by, coming out of the country, to bear his cross. And crucifying him, they parted his garments, casting lots for them, who should take any thing. 25 Erat autem hora tertia : et crucifixerunt eum. 25 And it was the third hour; and they crucified him. 26 Et erat titulus causæ ejus inscriptus : Rex Judæorum. And the inscription of his accusation was written over: The King of the Jews. 28 And the scripture was fulfilled which says: And he was accounted among the unjust. 29 Et prætereuntes blasphemabant eum, moventes capita sua, et dicentes : Vah ! 29 And those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying, Aha! qui destruis templum Dei, et in tribus diebus reædificas, 30 salvum fac temetipsum descendens de cruce. you who would destroy the temple of God and build it in three days, 30 save yourself, coming down from the cross. 31 In like manner also the chief priests, mocking, said to one another with the scribes: He saved others; he cannot save himself. 32 Let Christ the king of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And those who were crucified with him also insulted him.

33 And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole earth until the ninth hour. 34 Et hora nona exclamavit Jesus voce magna, dicens : Eloi, eloi, lamma sabacthani ? And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying: Eloi, Eloi, lama Sabacthani? quod est interpretatum : Deus meus, Deus meus, ut quid dereliquisti me ? which means, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" 35 Et quidam de circumstantibus audientes, dicebant : Ecce Eliam vocat. 35 And certain of the bystanders, upon hearing it, said, Behold, he calls Elijah. 36 And one ran, and filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it about a reed, and gave him a drink, saying: Suffer me to see, let us see if Elias will come to take him down.

39 And the centurion, who was standing in front of him, seeing that he had thus cried out, gave up the ghost, and said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

40 And there were also women looking from afar, among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger, and Joseph, and Salome. Jerusalem.42 And when it was already evening (because it was the Preparation, which is before the Sabbath),43 Joseph of Arimathea, a famous council member, who was also waiting for the kingdom of God, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. he wondered if he was already dead. And sending for the centurion, he asked him if he was already dead.45 And when he knew it from the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary Joseph beheld where he was laid.
