Numbers

The relationship between German numbers and English numbers is immediately clear from the sound and spelling. See the appendix for a list of ordinal and cardinal German numbers.

After the number twenty, note that the order is reversed – Germans would read 21 as one-and-twenty or einundzwanzig.

Ordinal numbers all end in -e, which is an adjective ending. These get modified just like any other adjective:

Morgen ist mein vierundzwanzigster Geburtstag.
Tomorrow is my twenty-fourth birthday.

Du hast deine zweite Chance verloren.
You lost your second chance.
