Google Earth hakkında bilmediğiniz 15 Şey

Google Earth, sık kullanmama rağmen beni hala şaşırtmaya devam eden uygulamalardan biri. Dünyanın bu en ayrıntılı yerküre haritasını her açtığımda yeni bir şeyler keşfediyorum. Bazen de başkalarının yaptığı keşiflere bakıp “böyle şeyleri nereden buluyorlar?” demekten kendimi alıkoyamıyorum. Resmen ortaokuldaki matematik öğretmenimin bakışı bu 🙂

Dünyanın çevresindeki uydular tarafından o kadar ilginç görüntüler yakalanıyor ki sadece bunlar bile başlıbaşına bir video konusu olabilir. Ama ben bulunmuş bu hazır görüntüleri izlemeniz yerine sizlerin yeni şeyler keşfetmesini tercih ederim. O yüzden coğrafi okur-yazarlığımızı geliştirecek bu videoyu hazırladım. Olabildiğince kapsamlı ama öz bir şekilde bir rehber oluşturmaya çalıştım. Daha sonra aradığınız bilgileri bulabilmeniz için de bir zaman indeksi oluşturdum. Videonun altındaki kırmızı çizgiden bunu takip edip aradığınız bölümlere hızla ulaşabilirsiniz.

Her şeyden önce Google Earth'ü diğer uygulamalardan ve hatta en yakın kuzeni Google Maps'ten bile ayırmak lazım. Her ne kadar bu ikisi birbirine benziyor gibi gözükse de iki farklı amaca yönelik tasarlanmışlar. Bu uygulamaların geliştiriminde çalışan bir yazılımcı aralarındaki farkı çok güzel ifade etmiş. Google Maps yani navigasyon-harita uygulaması aradığın yeri bulman için, Google Earth'se kaybolman için yapıldı diyordu esprili bir şekilde. Kendinizi kaybetmenin en eğlenceli yolları gelecek şimdi. Çünkü onu kullanarak az önceki bakışı da yakalayabilirsiniz, oyun da oynayabilirsiniz. Bir konuyu anlamak ya da anlatmak için bir proje de hazırlayabilirsiniz.

Google Earth platformu Google Earth, coğrafi görüntülerin toplandığı en büyük veri havuzu ve gezegenimizin en gerçekçi, fotorealistik versiyonu. Dünyanın neredeyse birebir dijital kopyası. 3 versiyonu var: Web, Mobil ve Pro masaüstü. Ayrıca bu videoda anlatacağım zamanda yolculuk yapmanızı sağlayan Earth Engine, animasyon yapmanızı sağlayan Earth Studio, slayt gösterisi yapan Earth View gibi pek çok yardımcı araçtan oluşan bir ekosistem. Tamamen ücretsiz olan bu platformu eskiden kullanmanın tek yolu uygulama yüklemekti. Artık ona bile gerek yok, sadece tarayıcınızı kullanarak https://earth.google.com/web adresine girmeniz yeterli.

Adres yerine konu aramak Arama çubuğuna bildiğiniz bir yeri yazmayın. Bilmediğiniz bir şeyi sorgulayın. Dağlardan şehirlere, okyanusların dibine kadar inebilirsiniz. Beni manzaralı bir yere götürmesi için “manzara” yazıyorum ve daha yazarken “manzara seyir nokta” önerisinde bulunuyor. Sonuçlardan birine tıklayıp o bölgeye ulaşalım: “Özdere Manzara Seyir Noktası.” Nasıl oldu da kendimizi orada bulduk? Bu aramaları coğrafi noktalarla veri katmanları arasındaki ilişkileri kullanarak yapıyor. Veri katmanlarından biri de Vikipedi, dolayısıyla dünyadaki noktalar hakkında epeyce bir Türkçe içerik size sunuluyor. Ama vikipedideki İngilizce makale sayısı çok daha fazla olduğu için aramanızı basit kelimelerle bile olsa İngilizce yaparsanız çok daha fazla sonuç verecektir. Bu işlem Google aramasından biraz daha farklı çalışıyor. Mesela aynı arama değişik ölçeklerde farklı sonuçlar gösteriyor. Kendinizi dünyanın çevresindeki bir uydu gibi düşünün. Hangi noktanın üstündeyseniz önce o noktalara yakın sonuçlar size gösteriliyor. Dolayısıyla arama yaparken ilk çıkan sonuçlarla yetinmeyin, farklı bölgeleri farklı sorgularla araştırmayı ihmal etmeyin.

Google Earth kullanılarak yapılan keşifler Tabi benim gibi sadece çay içip çekirdek çitlenebilecek manzaralı yerleri bulmak değil onu gerçek keşifler yapmak için kullananlar da var. Dr. Julian Bayliss, 2005 yılında sadece Google Earth görüntülerini kullanarak bu kayıp yağmur ormanını bulmuş. Daha sonra oraya giderek yeni bir yılan türü, cüce bukalemunlar ve yeni orkideler keşfetmiş. Yine aynı yöntemle Mozambik'teki bu dağın üstünde bir orman olduğu bulunmuş ve 2018 yılının Mayıs ayında ilk kez buraya adım atılmış. Yeni canlı türleri keşfedilebileceğine dair kanıtlar bulunmuş. Aynı yıl fotoğraf panoramaları arasında dolaşan Lisa Stout adında biri Ness gölündeki bu görüntüye rastlamış. Antik çağlardan beri sözü edilen ve ilk kez 1930'da görüntülenen Loch Ness canavarına ait başka bir ipucu mu bu yoksa? Google Earth bilim insanları kadar komplo teorisyenleri için de sınırsız imkanlar sağlıyor. Antarktika'daki şu simetrik şekillere bir bakın. Uzaylıların izleri mi yoksa “nunatak” adı verilen kar üstünde kalmış izole kayalık tepecikleri mi? 2006 yılında Lynn Hickox adında biri headdress giyen bir kızılderiliye benzeyen bu adamın silüetini bulmuş. Bu sadece bir benzerlik elbette. Bilim insanlarının “pareidolia” dediği şey. Yani insanın gördüğü bir şeyi, bildiği şeylere benzeterek yanlış algılaması özelliği. Bunun en çarpıcı örneği de Mars'ın Cydonia bölgesinde, kuşbakışı insan yüzüne benzeyen bir tepe. Google Earth bu tür desenleri bulabileceğiniz binlerce köşeyle dolu. Örneğin 2018'de, bir ısı dalgası Dublin bölgesini etkisi altına aldı ve şöyle bir görüntü ortaya çıktı. Sağlıklı ve kurumuş ürünler arasındaki görsel kontrastı görebildiniz mi? İşte sıcak dalgası eskiden burada gerçekleşen tarım yapılarının biçimlerini ortaya çıkarmış ve araştırmacılar için bu görsel insanların 6000 yıldan fazla bir süredir İrlanda'da çiftçilik yaptığını ve yaşadığını gösteren yeni bir kanıt haline gelmiş. Dünyayı duvar kağıdı yapmak Google Earth motorunu kullanan başka bazı siteler de var ve bu videoda bunların birkaç örneğini göstereceğim. Bir tanesi https://random.earth/ Mekanizması çok basit. Müzik dinlerken kullandığımız “karışık çal” seçeneğine benzer bu butona ya da klavyenizdeki boşluk tuşuna her dokunuşunuzda sizi dünyanın tablo kalitesinde bir köşesine götürüyor. Beğendiğiniz bir manzaraya rastlarsanız yüksek çözünürlüklü bir görsel olarak bilgisayarınıza indirebilir ve mesela bir duvar kağıdı haline getirebilirsiniz. “Earth View” adlı bir başka uygulamayı kullanarak otomatik bir sunum da oluşturabilirsiniz. Burada özenle seçilmiş 2500 kadar fotoğraf otomatik bir slayt gösterisi olarak dönmeye başlıyor. Bir yandan fotoğrafın dünya üzerindeki konumunu görürken bir yandan da beğendiklerinizi yine bilgisayarınıza indirebilirsiniz.

3 Boyutlu bölgeler Google Earth'in en etkileyici görünümlerinden biri 3 boyutlu yerler. Dağları, ovaları yani farklı yüksekliklerdeki bölgeleri 3 boyutlu görebiliyoruz. Ama bundan daha da etkileyici olanı özellikle kentsel alanlardaki görselleştirmeler. Örneğin Çin'deki şu gökdelene bir bakın. Ya da Las Vegas'ta piramit şeklinde yapılmış şu otele. O kadar çok ayrıntı var ki gerçekten de sanal bir yolculuk yapmış oluyorsunuz. Peki dünyanın hangi şehirleri ve bölgeleri böyle 3 boyutlu olarak gezilebilir? Bunun için arama çubuğuna “3D” yazmanız yeterli. Sonuçlar bölümündeki “3D Imagery in Google Earth” sonucuna tıklayınca tüm 3 boyutlu bölgeler sarı sınır çizgileriyle gösteriliyor. Neredeyse her kıtada böyle bölgeler var. Türkiye'de maalesef henüz bu tür bir haritalama yapılmamış. Yeri gelmişken bunu nasıl yaptıklarından da söz edeyim. Biliyorsunuz genel olarak 2 boyutlu bölgelerde uydu görüntüleri kullanılıyor. Ancak 3 boyutlu bölgeleri oluşturabilmek için bu yeterli değil. Bunun için özel uçaklarla o bölgelerde zikzaklar çizerek defalarca uçup 5 farklı açıdan milyonlarca fotoğraf çekiyorlar. Sonra da bu fotoğrafları “fotogrametri” yöntemiyle birleştiriyorlar. Bu yöntemi kullanmadan önce havadaki bulutlar siliniyor; sis, pus kaldırılıyor; renk düzeltmesi yapılıyor. Bilgisayarla farklı açıdan çekilmiş fotoğrafların ortak özellikleri bulunarak bir derinlik haritası oluşturuluyor. Böylece nesnelerin ne kadar uzakta olduğu nokta nokta işleniyor. Bu noktaların araları çizgilerle bağlanıp adeta örülüyor, bir iskelet ortaya çıkartılıyor ve son olarak bu iskeletin üstü gerçek fotoğraf dokularıyla kaplanıyor.

Panoramik görüntüler Gördüğünüz gibi en tepede uydu görüntüleri, biraz yaklaşınca uçakla çekilen görüntülerden oluşturulan 3 boyutlu grafikler var. Bu şekilde toplam 20 farklı yakınlaştırma katmanı kullanılıyor. Bir bölgeyi en yakından görebilmenin yoluysa panoramik fotoğraflar. Bazen tamamen rastgele olarak bu 3 boyutlu görüntülenmiş bölgelerden birini seçiyorum ve yaklaşmaya başlıyorum. Amazon nehrinin kenarındaki bir kenti dolaşmak nasıl olurdu acaba? Mesela şuraya bir bakalım. 3 boyutlu görüntünün de bir sonraki aşamasına yani sokak görünümüne geçelim. Ekranın sağ alt köşesindeki insan figürünü tuttuğunuzda onu bırakabileceğiniz yerler mavi çizgilerle gösteriliyor. Şu sokağa bir girelim. Artık etrafımıza 360 derece göz atabiliyoruz. Brezilya'ya gelmişken bir futbol sahasını ziyaret etmemek olmaz öyle değil mi? Sadece böyle dolaşmak bile çok keyifli elbette ama bunu daha da eğlenceli hale getirecek bir oyun önerim var şimdi.

Rastgele sokak oyunu Sizi Google Earth kütüphanesini kullanan başka bir web sitesine göndereceğim: https://www.mapcrunch.com/ Siteyi her açtığınızda ya da “Go!” butonuna her basışınızda yeni bir yere ışınlanıyorsunuz. Bir anda kendinizi Moğolistan'da ıssız bir yolda kar yağışı altında bulabilirsiniz. Ya da Norveç'te bir günbatımına bakarken. Sizi çöle de götürebilir, tropik bir ormana da… Daha da güzeli “options” butonuna basarak sadece belli kıtaları ya da ülkeleri gezmek isteyebilirsiniz. Sokaklara değil, mekanların içlerine ışınlanmak istiyorsanız “indoor” seçeneğini işaretleyebilirsiniz. “Beni Türkiye'deki mekanlardan birinin içine ışınla Scotty!” Oyunlaştırma kısmı buradan başlıyor. Mekanın içine bakarak neresi olduğunu anlamaya çalışıyorsunuz. Bu bir spor salonu da olabilir, bir cami de olabilir, ev tekstil ürünleri satan bir dükkan da. Şaşırtıcı kareler işte böyle keşfediliyor. İstanbul Erkek Lisesi'nde yapılan bu törene katılan var mı aranızda? Bazıları da bu siteyi şöyle oyuna dönüştürüyor. “Options” bölümünden “stealth” seçeneğini işaretlerseniz, bulunduğunuz bölgeye ait bilgiler kaldırılıyor ve siz ışınlandığınız yerde gezmeye başlayarak nerede olduğunuzu anlayıp en yakın polis merkezine ya da otobüs terminali, havaalanı gibi bir transfer noktasına gitmeye çalışıyorsunuz. Animasyon Google Earth'deki görüntüleri kullanarak animasyon yapabileceğinizi biliyor muydunuz? Bunun için Google Earth Studio diye bir araç var. After Effects benzeri bir arayüz ve teknik kullanarak önce bir başlangıç noktası, sonra da bir bitiş noktası, yani “keyframe”ler, anahtar çerçeveler belirleyip, aradaki kamera hareketinin otomatik olarak oluşturulmasını sağlayabilirsiniz. “Bir yere yaklaşma, bir binanın etrafında dönme, bir noktadan başka bir noktaya uçma gibi sık kullanılan işlemler için hazır şablonlar da var. Hızlıca bir örnek yapalım şimdi birlikte… Diyelim ki “Eyfel Kulesi” hakkında bir sunum hazırlamanız gerekiyor. Animasyon şablonlarından birini seçerek başlayabiliriz. Benim favorim spiral hareketi. Arama kutusuna Eyfel yazarak hızla istediğimiz yere ulaşıyoruz. Bir sonraki adımda kameranın başlangıç ve bitiş noktalarındaki açısını, hedefin ne kadar uzağından ne kadar yakınına gideceğimiz gibi bilgileri belirliyoruz. Sol taraftaki ekran kuşbakışı kameranın harita üzerindeki konumunu gösterirken sağ taraftaki ekran sonuçta izleyeceğimiz görüntüyü bize gösteriyor. Buradan kabaca hareketi belirledikten sonra zaman çizgisi üzerinde ince ayarlar da yapılabilir. Görüntü kaynağının logosunun ekrandaki konumunu da belirledikten sonra bunların oluşturulması yani “render” edilmesi aşamasına geçiliyor. Animasyonunuzun uzunluğuna göre içinde 3 boyutlu nesnelerin de olduğu bu görseller tek tek oluşturuluyor, sıkıştırılıyor ve bilgisayarınıza indiriliyor. Benim yaptığım animasyon için toplam 750 resim oluşturuldu. Bunlar indikten sonra bir video kurgu programıyla hareketli görüntüye dönüştürülerek kullanılabilir.

Tarihi haritalar Google Earth'de sadece güncel, modern haritaları değil tarihi haritaları da inceleyebilirsiniz. Bunun için “maps” kelimesini aratın ve “Historical maps around the world” bölümüne gidin. Burada 1680'den 1930'a kadar yapılmış 100'den fazla tarihi haritayı küre üzerinde bulabilirsiniz. Tarihi Tokyo'yu da gezebilirsiniz, Kongo'nun 1708'deki halini de görebilirsiniz. Fırtınalar ve Tsunamiler Arama çubuğuna “storm” yazdığınızda çıkan “current hurricanes & tropical storms” seçeneğini kullanarak şu anda yeryüzündeki büyük fırtınaları, bunların hangi kategoride olduğunu, son durumunu ve potansiyel olarak izleyeceği yolu görüntüleyebilirsiniz. Bu videoda bahsettiğim tüm özelliklerin linklerini ayrıca videonun açıklamalar kısmına da bırakacağım ama bunlarla sınırlı kalmanızı istemem. O yüzden size arama alternatifleri sunmaya çalışıyorum. Arayabileceğiniz bir başka kelime “tsunami.” Çıkan sonuçlardan “tsunamis in history” seçeneği size tarihteki en büyük 21 felaketi ve bunların yerini gösteriyor. En büyük tsunaminin okyanuslarda ya da denizlerde değil de Norveç'teki bir gölde meydana geldiğini ben bu şekilde öğrendim. 1936'da 1 milyon kübik metre hacme sahip bir kaya 800 metre yükseklikteki bir dağdan göle düşmüş ve 70 metre yüksekliğinde dalgaların oluşmasına yol açmış. Bu dalgalar çevredeki tarlaları yutmuş ve 74 kişinin ölümüne sebep olmuş.

Süper kahraman filmlerinin çekildiği yerler Arama çubuğuna “superhero” yazdığınızda çıkan “superhero movie film locations” seçeneğini kullanarak süperkahraman filmlerinin çekildiği yerleri gezebilirsiniz. Bunu da cep telefonundan görelim. “The Wolverine” filminde Hugh Jackman'ın ziyaret ettiği 14. Yüzyıl Budist tapınağı. “Batman Begins” filminde Christian Bale ve Liam Neeson'ın epik kılıç dövüşünün yapıldığı buzul ki çekimler sırasında çatladığı belirtiliyor. X-Men filminde kullanılan Toronto'daki 1914 yapımı Casa Loma malikanesi. Bunları fotoğraf olarak görebildiğiniz gibi çoğunu 3 boyutlu olarak da inceleyebiliyorsunuz. “Wonder Woman”daki Louvre Müzesi, “Guardians of Galaxy”nin açılış sahnelerinde kullanılan Belçika'daki tren istasyonu, Superman'in çalıştığı “Daily Planet” gazete binasının New York'taki gerçeği gibi pek çok mekanı bu şekilde gezebilirsiniz. Timelapse – Son 40 yıldaki değişimler Geldik en sevdiğim özelliklerden birine. Google Earth bizim mekanda 3 boyutlu olarak gezmemizi sağlıyor ya. Buna 4.boyutu yani zamanı da ekleyebilmek mümkün. Bunun için Google Earth Engine isimli başka bir web sitesini ziyaret etmemiz gerekiyor. Bu site dünyanın herhangi bir noktasının son 40 yıldaki değişimini bize gösteriyor. Alaska'daki buzulların nasıl eridiğine bakabilirsiniz. Daha da çarpıcı bir değişim görmek isterseniz Dubai'deki yapılaşmayı inceleyebilirsiniz. Timelapse devam ederken, istediğiniz ölçekte dünyaya yaklaşıp uzaklaşmak ya da başka bir bölgesini ziyaret edebilmek mümkün. Dolayısıyla oturduğunuz yerin son yıllarda nasıl değiştiğini de bu şekilde görebilirsiniz. Bodrum'un 1984-2018 yılları arasında nasıl değiştiğine bir bakalım mı? Bu kadar kısa bir sürede böylesine büyük değişimleri tepeden görmek insana bambaşka bir vizyon kazandırıyor, öyle değil mi?

Kendimi şanslı hissediyorum Google Earth ile hemen şimdi yapabileceğiniz en basit şey zar atmak. Zar görünümlü bu butona her basışınızda sizi farklı bir yere götürüyor. Götürdüğü yer hakkında kısaca Türkçe bilgiler de veriyor. Şu uçak ikonu sizi şaşırtmasın. Zar attıktan sonra tekrar zara basarak çekirge gibi dünya üzerinde sıçrayıp durabilirsiniz. İlginizi çeken bir bölge bulursanız bilgi kartının altındaki diğer kartları da seçerek o bölgeyi keşfedebilirsiniz. Ama en güzeli en son ekledikleri yeni bir özellik olan projeler.
