Capitulo 3

Barcelona. Jueves, 31 de julio. 14.15 h. A las dos y cuarto de la tarde Pepa deja a los japoneses en la puerta del Museo Dalí, en Figueras. Está cansada y tiene hambre. Aparca, entra en un bar y se toma un bocadillo de jamón, una cerveza y dos cafés con hielo. Cuando vuelve al taxi, ve a un hombre alto, con una bolsa en la espalda, que va hacia ella corriendo. −¡Espera! ¡Espera, por favor! −dice el hombre levantando una mano. Lleva el pelo rubio recogido en una coleta. Es alto, guapo y tiene ojos de serpiente. −¿Sí? −dice Lola. −¿Estás libre? −pregunta el hombre. −Bueno… Voy a Barcelona. −Ya, ya sé que eres de Barcelona. Por el taxi15… −dice el tipo sonriendo−. ¿Puedes llevarme? −Sí, sí. Claro −Pepa piensa que va a cobrar dos veces por el mismo viaje. Está encantada−. Sube. El hombre tira la bolsa en el asiento de atrás y luego se sienta. El taxi se pone en marcha. −¿A qué lugar de Barcelona vamos? −pregunta Pepa. −Al Hotel Arts. −¿De vacaciones? −pregunta Pepa. El Hotel Arts es un hotel de superlujo. −Ajá −dice el hombre, y se pone a mirar el paisaje. No quiere conversación. Pepa sabe cuando la gente tiene ganas de hablar y cuando no. «¡Lástima!», piensa, mirando por el espejo retrovisor, «porque parece un tío interesante». Pone la radio y conduce en silencio. A las seis de la tarde Pepa deja al pasajero en el Hotel Arts. Está cansada y conduce el taxi hacia Gracia. Entra en el garaje donde trabaja su amigo Raúl, pero no lo ve . Raúl no está. En su lugar hay un chico joven, con gafas, que ella no conoce. −¡Hola! ¿Y Raúl? −le pregunta Pepa−. ¿Dónde está? Raúl sale del baño con una revista de motos en las manos. −¡Hola, Pepa! Estaba… Bueno, ya sabes… Ese −señala al chico de las gafas− es mi sustituto. ¿Qué tal el día? −Bien. He ido a Figueras a llevar a unos japoneses al Museo Dalí… −He oído en la radio que han robado un cuadro del Museo Dalí −dice el chico con gafas, pero ni Pepa ni Raúl le escuchan. −…y a la vuelta he recogido a un tipo que venía a Barcelona −continúa Pepa−. ¿Has terminado ya de trabajar? ¿Nos vamos a tomar unas cañas16? −Sí. Un momento, que recojo unas cosas. Mañana nos vamos a la playa Loli y yo. No encuentro por ningún lado mi bolsa verde… −¡Tú bolsa verde! Está en el taxi −dice Pepa. Pepa abre el coche y le da la bolsa a Raúl−. ¡Toma! Eres un desastre. −Soy un hombre muy ocupado. Raúl mete en la bolsa la revista y unas llaves. Se despide del chico: «¡Nos vemos17, pringao18! −¡Empiezan las vacaciones! ¡Vamos a celebrarlo! −Raúl le pasa el brazo por encima del hombro a Pepa y los dos salen a la calle.
