Escena XIII
(El Juicio. The trial. En la tribunal de la inquisición contra Macario. In the tribunal, the court of inquisition against Macario)
Macario
Les juro que soy inocente. I swear to you I am innocent. No soy ningún agente del diablo. I am no agent of the devil. Yo no tengo miedo de morir. I do not fear dying. Pero mis hijos. But my children. Mi esposa. My wife. Abandonados a la buena de Dios quedarán. Abandoned to the good whims of God will be they be.
Padre Crucero
(El inquisidor se acerca y le habla bien de cerca diciéndole directamente en la oreja con los ojos abiertos, speaking directly into his ear with his eyes wide open, cara de histérico, with an hysterical gesture on his face)
¡Blasfemo! ¡La hora ya te llegó! Your hour has arrived! ¡Te espera la hoguera! The Hell fire awaits you!
(Entra un paje. A page enters al tribunal, to the tribunal. Le entrega un mensaje al obispo. He delivers a message to the bishop)
Padre Crucero
Debido a un contratiempo de improviso, me veo obligado a postergar esta sesión hasta mañana a la misma hora. Due to an unforeseen mishap, I find myself compelled to postpone this session until tomorrow at the same time.
(El obispo se levanta y se retira del escenario. The bishop gets up and withdraws from the stage. Aparece MUERTE mirándolo a Macario. DEATH appears looking at Macario. A Macario le da miedo y le da la espalda a su amigo. Macario is frightened and gives his back to his friend)
El Trío
A todos les toca su turno, para ver a San Pedro. De eso no hay salida. Cuando te toca el día de tu juicio.
Everybody's turn comes up to see San Pedro. There is no escape from that. When it's your day of judgement. Lleva en su alma una herida, el abismo creado por el pacto
y así se le acaba la vida, se le acerca su amigo la muerte
Las botellas del agua bendita, ya se van acabando, ya le
toca pagar la cuenta, el precio. Tu alma Chivato.
He carries in his soul a wound, the abyss created by the pact
and this is how his life is ending, his friend DEATH approaches
The bottle of the blessed water, are running out.
It's his turn to pay the check, the price. Your soul, my friend!
(Satanás muriéndose de la risa---Satan dying of laughter)
Ay que fregado Macario. Ya le espera la hoguera. Su mujer y
sus hijos llorando, el obispo, lo manda al infierno.
How screwed is Macario. The hell fire awaits him. His wife and his children
crying, the bishop sends him to hell.
Al jugar Macario sus cartas, así el selló su destino. El cuate
apostó su alma, por eso le busca la muerte.
Macario, upon playing his cards, this is how he sealed his fate. The guy gambled away his soul, because of that DEATH seeks him

(El obispo con su hermana en su despacho. The bishop with his sister in his office)
Obispo
¿Qué cosa? What? Pero, ¿Qué tonterías hablas, hermana? Que idiotic things are you talking about, my sister? Soy el obispo. I am the bishop. No puedo permitir semejante cosa. I can't permit such a thing. Pos. Well. Tú sabes mi posición. You know my position. ¿Qué dirán? What will they say?
Hermana
Dios Mío. Santos Apóstoles. My God. Tu sobrino agoniza en este mismo momento. Your nephew is agonizing (dying) at this very moment. Y tú, lo único que te preocupa es tu reputación, and the only thing that worries you is your reptutation.
Obispo
Mira. Mi hermana. La vida es un don de Dios. Life is a gift from God. Cuando a uno le toca la hora, When it is one's turn, no hay marcha atrás, there is no turning back. Hay que aceptar la voluntad de Dios. One has to accept God's will. No hay más. There is nothing more.
Hermana
Porfavor. Saúlo. Sólo te pido que le dejes al indio usar su agua con Sergio, mi hijo, tu sobrino. I only ask for you to let the indian use his magic water on Sergio, my son, your nephew!

(Tribunal del Santo Oficio. Tribunal of the Holy Office, La Santa Inquisición)
Obispo
Se aproxima el milenio. El día del juicio. The millenium approaches. The day of judgement. En estos momentos se encuentra nuestro munodo en medio de la lucha entre el bien y el mal. At this very moment, our world is amidst the struggle between good and evil. Aquí en este tribunal. Here in this court, nosotros vemos a Macario, we see Macario, víctima, engañado por las promesas falsas de Satanás, deceived by the false promises of Satan. Otra alma perdida. Another soul lost, condenada a la hoguera, condemned to the hell fire. Pero nosotros, aquí mismo en este monasterio, but we, right here in this convent, con el amparo de la santa vírgen y de todos los santos, with the support of the holy virgin and all of the saints, tenemos la gran oportunidad de recuperar el alma de este hombre. We have the great opportunity to save the soul of this man.
(Se dirige a Macario)
Obispo
Macario. ¿Estás listo para corregir todas las blasfemias, Are you ready to correct the blasphemies, que has cometido en contra de la santa iglesia, that you have committed against the holy church?
Macario
Sí, su excelencia. Cualquier cosa. Yes. your excellency. Anything. Estoy dispuesto a hacer cualquier cosa. I'm ready to do anything. (el obispo se dirige al inquisidor, Padre Crucero)
Obispo
El obispo se dirige a Padre Crucero y le dice la siguiente línea en el oído. The bishop addresses Padre Crucero and says the following in his ear)
A ti te encargo de llevar a cabao mi decreto. I charge you with carrying out my decree.
Padre Crucero
Ahora. Macario. Sueltas todo el dinero y tus bienes. Now Macario. You will give up all your money and assets. Y le curas al escüintle. And cure the little kid. Si no te liga, ¡La hoguera! If it doesn't work out for you. The hell fire!
