Oni/one - what's the difference?
Sie/einer - was ist der Unterschied?
They/one - what's the difference?
Ils/une - quelle est la différence ?
Они/один - в чем разница?
Cześć!
Hi!
Witaj w wideo newsletterze "Polish with Dorota".
Welcome to the video newsletter "Polish with Dorota".
W tej lekcji nauczysz się,
In this lesson, you will learn the
jaka jest różnica między słowami "oni" i "one".
difference between the words "oni" and "one".
To naprawdę jest bardzo częsty błąd.
This really is a very common mistake.
Dlaczego? Bo po angielsku mówimy "they",
Why? Because in English we say "they",
po rosyjsku mówimy "они",
in Russian we say "они",
a po polsku mamy dwa słowa: oni, one.
and in Polish we have two words: "oni", "one".
Jaka jest różnica?
What is the difference?
Generalnie osoby, które uczą się polskiego,
Generally, people who learn Polish
mówią zwykle, że "oni" to są mężczyźni,
usually say that "oni" are men
a "one" to są kobiety.
and "one" are women.
Czy to prawda? I tak, i nie.
Is it true? Yes and no.
Posłuchaj przykładów.
Listen to the examples.
- Czy Adam i Szymon już są?
- Are Adam and Simon already here?
- Tak, tak, oni już są.
- Yes, yes, they ("oni") are here.
- Czy Adam i Karolina już są?
- Are Adam and Karolina already here?
- Tak, oni już są.
- Yes, they ("oni") are here.
- Czy Adam, Karolina, Ania i Daria już są?
- Are Adam, Karolina, Ania and Daria already here?
- Tak, oni już są.
- Yes, they ("oni") are here.
- Czy Ania i Karolina już są?
- Are Ania and Karolina already here?
- Tak, one już są.
- Yes, they ("one") are here.
Adam i Szymon to "oni".
Adam and Simon are "oni".
Adam i Karolina to "oni".
Adam and Karolina are "oni".
Adam, Karolina, Ania, Daria
Adam, Karolina, Ania, Daria
i jeszcze kilka kobiet to też "oni".
and a few more women are also "oni".
A Ania i Karolina to "one".
And Ania and Karolina are "one".
Jak tu jest różnica?
What's the difference?
Tam, gdzie mamy słowo "one", tam nie ma ani jednego mężczyzny.
Where we have the word "one", there is not a single man.
"One" to tylko kobiety.
"One" are only women.
To może być sto kobiet, tysiąc kobiet i jeden facet, jeden mężczyzna
It could be a hundred women, a thousand women and one guy, one man,
i to już są "oni".
and that's "oni ".
Więc kiedy mówimy o ludziach,
So when we talk about people,
to "oni" to grupa ludzi z minimum jednym mężczyzną,
" oni " is a group of people with at least one man,
to mogą być tylko mężczyźni
they can only be men
albo to mogą być i kobiety i mężczyźni
or they can be both women and men
albo kobiety i jeden mężczyzna,
or women and one man,
a same kobiety to "one".
and the only women are "one".
Słowa "one" używamy też w odniesieniu do rzeczownika "dzieci".
We also use the word "one"in relation to the noun "dzieci" (children).
- Czy dzieci już są? - Tak, tak, one już są.
- Are children already here? - Yes, yes, they ("one") are already here.
A co jeśli nie mówimy o ludziach?
What if we're not talking about people?
Co jeśli mówimy o zwierzętach? Na przykład: psy, koty, tygrysy?
What if we're talking about animals? For example, dogs, cats, tigers?
Jeśli mówimy o rzeczach, o obiektach,
If we talk about things, about objects,
na przykład: samochody, książki, piwa, mieszkania, domy...
for example: cars, books, beers, apartments, houses...
I co jeśli mówimy o czymś abstrakcyjnym,
And what if we are talking about something abstract,
na przykład: informacje albo pomysły.
for example: information or ideas.
Do tych wszystkich, wszystkich kategorii odnosi się słowo "one".
All these categories are referred to as "one".
Psy - one, koty - one,
Dogs ("psy") - "one", cats ("koty") - "one",
samochody - one, książki - one,
cars ("samochody") - one, books (książki) - "one",
informacje - one, pomysły - one.
information ("informacje") - "one", ideas ("pomysły") - "one".
To nieważne, że "pies" jest rodzaju męskiego w liczbie pojedynczej.
It doesn't matter that "pies" (a dog) is masculine in the singular.
To nie jest ważne.
It is not important.
To nie jest ważne, że "samochód" jest rodzaju męskiego w liczbie pojedynczej.
It's not j It is important that "samochód" (car) is singular masculine.
Bo w liczbie mnogiej te rodzaje z liczby pojedynczej
Because in the plural, these singular
totalnie nie mają znaczenia.
genders totally don't matter.
W liczbie mnogiej mamy dwa rodzaje
There are two genders in the plural,
i ich nazwy wiele mówią.
and their names say a lot.
"Oni" to jest rodzaj męskoosobowy,
"Oni" is a masculine personal gender,
więc tam musi być osoba, ale osoba męska,
so there must be a person, but a male person,
co najmniej jeden mężczyzna,
at least one male,
a "one" to rodzaj niemęskoosobowy,
and "one" is a non-male-personal gender, that is,
czyli wszystko: grupa ludzi czy grupa zwierząt
everything: a group of people or a group of animals
czy rzeczy, w których nie ma mężczyzny.
or things in which there is no male.
To są: kobiety, dzieci, zwierzęta, wszystkie rzeczy - absolutnie wszystkie rzeczy
These are: women, children, animals, all things - absolutely all things
i wszystkie abstrakty.
and all abstracts.
Mały test! "Lekarze" to "oni" czy "one"?
A little test! "Lekarze" (doctors) are "oni" or "one"?
Oni.
"Oni".
Telefony?
"Telefony? (phones)?
One.
"One".
Koty?
"Koty" (cats)?
One, bo kot to nie mężczyzna, nie osoba.
"One", because the cat is not a man, not a person.
Kubki?
"Kubki" (cups)?
One.
"One".
Polacy?
"Polacy" (Poles)?
Oni, bo wśród Polaków jest więcej niż jeden mężczyzna na pewno.
Because there are more than one man among Poles for sure.
Nauczyciele?
"Nauczyciele" (male teachers)?
Oni.
"Oni".
Ale nauczycielki?
But "nauczycielki" (female teachers)?
One.
"One".
Uwaga!
Attention!
W czasie przeszłym mówimy:
In the past tense we say:
Oni byli, oni robili, oni czytali.
"Oni byli, oni robili, oni czytali." (They were, they were doing, they were reading).
Ale: one były, one robiły, one czytały.
But: "one były, one robiły, one czytały" (they were, they were doing, they were reading).
Więc zawsze kiedy mamy: kobiety, dzieci, zwierzęta, rzeczy, abstrakty,
So whenever we have: women, children, animals, things, abstracts,
mówimy: były, robiły, pisały, czytały,
we say: były, robiły, pisały, czytały (were, were reading, were writing, were reading)
stały i tak dalej.
"stały" (were standing) and so on.
Więc mówimy: Moje koty były u weterynarza.
So we say: "Moje koty były u weterynarza." (My cats have been to the vet).
Te dwa samochody stały na parkingu.
"Te dwa samochody stały na parkingu" (The two cars were standing in the parking lot.)
Nie "byli" i nie "stali".
Not "byli" (they were) nor "stali" (they were standing).
"Byli", "stali" to tylko ludzie, gdzie jest minimum jeden mężczyzna.
"Byli", "stali" are only people with at least one man.
