Evangelium secundum Ioannem, Caput 20

Caput 20

21 Dixit ergo eis iterum : Pax vobis. Sicut misit me Pater, et ego mitto vos.

Caput 20 Kapitel 20 Chapter 20 capitulo 20

1 On the first Sabbath, Mary Magdalene came in the morning, while it was still dark, to the tomb: and she saw the stone removed from the tomb. 2 He therefore ran, and came to Simon Peter, and to another disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them: They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.

4 Now the two ran together, and that other disciple ran faster than Peter, and came first to the tomb. 5 And when he had bowed down, he saw the linen laid out: yet he did not enter. 6 Then came Simon Peter following him, and entered into the tomb, and saw the linen cloths laid, 7 and the shroud which had been over his head, not laid with the linen cloths, but rolled up separately in one place. 10 Then the disciples went away again to themselves.

11 Maria autem stabat ad monumentum foris, plorans. 11 And Mary stood outside the tomb, weeping. While he was weeping, he bent down and looked into the tomb: 12 and saw two angels sitting in white, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been laid. 13 Dicunt ei illi : Mulier, quid ploras ? 13 They said to her: Woman, why are you crying? Dicit eis : Quia tulerunt Dominum meum : et nescio ubi posuerunt eum. He says to them: Because they have taken my Lord, and I do not know where they have put him. 15 Dicit ei Jesus : Mulier, quid ploras ? quem quæris ? who are you looking for? Illa existimans quia hortulanus esset, dicit ei : Domine, si tu sustulisti eum, dicito mihi ubi posuisti eum, et ego eum tollam. Thinking that he was a gardener, she said to him: Sir, if you took him up, tell me where you put him, and I will take him up. 16 Dicit ei Jesus : Maria. 16 Jesus said to her: Mary. Conversa illa, dicit ei : Rabboni (quod dicitur Magister). She turned and said to him: Rabboni (which is called Master). 17 Dicit ei Jesus : Noli me tangere, nondum enim ascendi ad Patrem meum : vade autem ad fratres meos, et dic eis : Ascendo ad Patrem meum, et Patrem vestrum, Deum meum, et Deum vestrum. 17 Jesus said to him: Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brothers and say to them: I ascend to my Father and your Father, my God and your God. 18 Venit Maria Magdalene annuntians discipulis : Quia vidi Dominum, et hæc dixit mihi. 18 Mary Magdalene came announcing to the disciples: Because I have seen the Lord, and these things he said to me. Mary of Magdala went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord," and what he told her.

19 Cum ergo sero esset die illo, una sabbatorum, et fores essent clausæ, ubi erant discipuli congregati propter metum Judæorum : venit Jesus, et stetit in medio, et dixit eis : Pax vobis. 19 When it was late on that day, one of the Sabbaths, and the doors were closed, where the disciples were gathered for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst and said to them: Peace be with you. 20 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Gavisi sunt ergo discipuli, viso Domino. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 Dixit ergo eis iterum : Pax vobis. 21 Then he said to them again: Peace be with you. Sicut misit me Pater, et ego mitto vos. When he had said these things, he breathed on them, and said to them: Receive the Holy Ghost: 23 Whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven them: and whose sins you retain, they are retained 24 Thomas autem unus ex duodecim, qui dicitur Didymus, non erat cum eis quando venit Jesus. 25 Dixerunt ergo ei alii discipuli : Vidimus Dominum. 25 Then the other disciples said to him: We have seen the Lord. Ille autem dixit eis : Nisi videro in manibus ejus fixuram clavorum, et mittam digitum meum in locum clavorum, et mittam manum meam in latus ejus, non credam. And he said to them: Unless I see the fastening of the nails in his hands, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.

Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came with the doors closed and stood in the middle and said: Peace be with you. 27 Then he says to Thomas: Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it in my side: and do not be unbelieving, but faithful. 28 Thomas answered and said to him: My Lord and my God. 29 Jesus said to him: Because you have seen me, Thomas, you have believed: blessed are those who have not seen and have believed. 30 Indeed, Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which did not are written in this book. 31 Now these things are written that you may believe, because Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God: and that believing, you may have life in his name. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you." 27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe." 28 Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!" 29 Jesus said to him, "Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed." 30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of (his) disciples that are not written in this book. 31 But these are written that you may (come to) believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.
