Actus Apostolorum (Acts of the Apostles), Acts 14

Acts 14

Acts 14 Acts 14 Hechos 14 Atos 14

1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and spoke, so that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed. 2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up and incensed the souls of the Gentiles against the brethren. 3 Multo igitur tempore demorati sunt, fiducialiter agentes in Domino, testimonium perhibente verbo gratiæ suæ, dante signa et prodigia fieri per manus eorum. 3 Therefore they abode a long time, dealing boldly in the Lord, who gave testimony to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. 4 And the multitude of the city was divided: and some indeed were with the Jews, and some with the apostles.

5 And when there was an attack upon the Gentiles and the Jews, with their princes, to insult them, and to stone them, 6 Being aware of it, they fled to Lystra and Derbe in the cities of Lycaonia, and all around the country, and there were preaching the gospel. And at Lystra there sat a certain man, impotent in his feet, a cripple from his mother's womb, who had never walked. 8 Hic audivit Paulum loquentem. 8 This man heard Paul speaking. Who fastening his eyes upon him, and seeing that he had faith to be saved, 9 said with a loud voice, Stand upright on your feet. Et exilivit, et ambulabat. And he leaped up and began to walk. 10 And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice in the Lycaonian tongue, saying, The gods, having become like men, have come down to us. 11 Et vocabant Barnabam Jovem, Paulum vero Mercurium : quoniam ipse erat dux verbi. 11 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercury, because he was the chief speaker. 12 And the priest of Jupiter, who was before the city, bringing oxen and garlands to the gates, would have sacrificed with the people. Which when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard, they tore their clothes off, and rushed out among the people, shouting, 14 and saying: Men, why do you these things? et nos mortales sumus, similes vobis homines, annuntiantes vobis ab his vanis converti ad Deum vivum, qui fecit cælum, et terram, et mare, et omnia quæ in eis sunt : 15 qui in præteritis generationibus dimisit omnes gentes ingredi vias suas. and we are mortals, men like yourselves, announcing to you that we have turned from these vain things to the living God, who made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that is in them: 15 who in past generations let all nations go in his ways. 16 And indeed he did not leave himself without witness, beneficent from heaven, giving rains and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and joy. 17 And saying these things, they scarcely calmed the multitudes lest they should sacrifice to themselves. 18 And certain Jews came from Antioch and Iconium: and being persuaded by the multitude, and stoning Paul, they dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead. 19 And with his disciples surrounding him, he got up and entered the city, and the next day he went with Barnabas to Derben.

20 Cumque evangelizassent civitati illi, et docuissent multos, reversi sunt Lystram, et Iconium, et Antiochiam, 21 confirmantes animas discipulorum, exhortantesque ut permanerent in fide : et quoniam per multas tribulationes oportet nos intrare in regnum Dei. 20 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and taught many, they returned to Lystra, and Iconium, and Antioch, 21 strengthening the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith: and because through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God. 22 Et cum constituissent illis per singulas ecclesias presbyteros, et orassent cum jejunationibus, commendaverunt eos Domino, in quem crediderunt. 22 And when they had appointed priests for them in each church, and had prayed with fastings, they commended them to the Lord, in whom they believed. 23 Transeuntesque Pisidiam, venerunt in Pamphyliam, 24 et loquentes verbum Domini in Perge, descenderunt in Attaliam : 25 et inde navigaverunt Antiochiam, unde erant traditi gratiæ Dei in opus quod compleverunt. 23 And having crossed Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia, 24 and having spoken the word of the Lord in Perga, they descended to Attalia: 25 and from there they sailed to Antioch, whence they were delivered by the grace of God to the work which they had completed. 26 But when they had come and assembled the church, they reported how much God had done with them, and that he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. 27 And they tarried a considerable time with the disciples.
