Le trasferte hanno un unico difetto, o meglio, in trasferta c'è un unico rischio.

È importantissimo essere sul campo, si vedono più chiaramente le cose, ci si chiariscono molti dubbi.

È ovviamente fondamentale vedere le cose con i propri occhi e anche parlare con chi questa guerra la vive, la subisce o la combatte.

In trasferta però c'è un unico rischio, che è quello di perdere un po' la visione di insieme,

di vedere solo quello che hai di fronte, solo le storie che stai raccogliendo, solo nel villaggio in cui sei quel giorno.

Di dare meno importanza al contesto e di perdersi quella che viene chiamata la big picture.

Oggi sono in viaggio, mi sto spostando dal Donbass, come al solito qui le traversate in macchina sono molto lunghe per andare da un punto a un altro.

Devo fare tappa di Nipro, anche perché in Donbass era diventato sempre più difficile fare scorta di benzina, è razionata, ci sono delle file infinite.

Quindi tornare ogni tanto in una grande città dove si riesce a fare la spesa, si riesce a caricarsi in macchina le tanniche di benzina è fondamentale.

Faccio tappa qui per poi andare a Kharkiv e mi approfitto di essere in viaggio, di non essere a seguire una storia specifica oggi,

per fare un po' il punto della situazione sull'offensiva nel Donbass e su cosa Putin può, probabilmente vorrebbe e cosa non può ottenere per il giorno della vittoria,

per il giorno della parata della vittoria a Mosca lunedì 9 maggio.

Il 9 maggio è festa nazionale in Russia, è una festa laica, si celebra la grande guerra patriottica, la vittoria dei sovietici sui nazisti nella seconda guerra mondiale.

È una cerimonia laica ma è vissuta quasi con spirito religioso.

C'è una grande parata militare a Mosca che quest'anno in realtà sarà una parata un po' ridimensionata per ragioni evidenti,

cioè le armi e i soldati sono da un'altra parte e sono in Ucraina.

Per Putin sarebbe molto importante avere qualcosa da vantare quel giorno, ma ha poco da poter vantare per quel giorno.

Il motivo per cui Putin aveva detto risparmiamoli quelli che sono nei sotterrani dell'Azov sta alla Amariupol in Donbass.

Invece Amariupol si combatte, i separatisti e i pochi soldati russi che sono rimasti combattono per stanare i soldati ucraini e i soldati del battaglione Azov

Ma quando Putin ha cambiato obiettivo della guerra ed è passato dal generico proposito di denazificare l'Ucraina

dicendo che Zelensky era nazista, che il governo era nazista provando ad accerchiare Kiev e a mettere in fuga quel governo

nella seconda metà di aprile è passato da questo proposito a un altro obiettivo, la liberazione del Donbass.

Nello specifico la liberazione del Donbass significava e significa conquistare tutto l'oblast, tutta la regione di Donetsk e tutta la regione di Lugansk

tra i due oblast in cui ho girato nell'ultima settimana.

Questo risultato sicuramente non lo può ottenere per il 9 maggio.

L'offensiva del Donbass non procede velocemente ed ecco perché è importante raccontare i dettagli e poi fermarsi un attimo e provare a guardare le cose con un po' più di distanza.

Vista dalla linea del fronte che abbiamo raccontato nell'ultima puntata, vista da Advivka, vista da Pischi, vista soprattutto da Limanna

l'offensiva nel Donbass è terribile. I russi avanzano e la loro artiglieria avanza e colpisce indiscriminatamente.

Guardando le cose un po' più da lontano, guardandole dalla prospettiva di Kiev e anche dalla prospettiva di Mosca,

le cose stanno andando molto lentamente rispetto all'obiettivo di conquistare tutte e due quelle regioni.

Adesso, qual è il metodo dei russi e quali sono i problemi dei russi nell'offensiva per conquistare tutto il Donbass?

Il metodo è piuttosto semplice ed è questo. L'arma regina, l'arma fondamentale di questa fase della guerra è l'artiglieria.

I russi ne hanno di più, gli ucraini ne hanno di meno, ma negli ultimi aiuti umanitari che arrivano dall'Occidente,

quelli che abbiamo chiamato gli aiuti di armi offensive, arrivano obici, quindi pezzi di artiglieria 155 mm,

che sono quello di cui hanno bisogno gli ucraini in questa fase e nei combattimenti che ci sono nell'Est.

Gli ucraini hanno meno artiglieria e ce l'hanno meno potente, cioè con un raggio inferiore,

quindi si devono avvicinare di più e mettersi più in pericolo per riuscire a colpire le posizioni nemiche.

Il 90%, a quanto riportano le fonti occidentali, il 90% di questi aiuti è già arrivato, è arrivato in Ucraina,

ma io ero in Donbass e il comandante con il nome di battaglia Fox, che combatte a Limanna,

mi ha detto che a loro queste armi non sono ancora arrivate, ma sono nel paese e stanno per raggiungerli.

Il metodo dei russi, sfruttando il vantaggio che hanno in questo momento, è colpire con l'artiglieria

e una volta che hanno distrutto le postazioni nemiche e hanno distrutto buona parte dei villaggi

o delle piccole città che si trovano in questo momento sulla linea del fronte, le occupano.

A Jampil e a Rubizhne, due villaggi vicini alla città di Limanna, è successo esattamente questo.

Sono stati distrutti e poi sono stati occupati.

Se la tecnica dei russi è questa, la tecnica degli ucraini è abbastanza semplice

e me l'ha spiegata il comandante Fox, sempre dalla base sul fronte di Limanna.

La tecnica è riposizionarsi, arretrare un po', lasciare avanzare i russi,

ma cercare di fare in modo che avanzino il più lentamente possibile e suppendo il maggior numero di perdite possibile.

Questo mentre gli ucraini aspettano che arrivino i pezzi di artiglieria che gli servono dall'Occidente.

Arriviamo invece ai problemi dei russi.

Ci sono ancora grossi problemi di coordinamento e questo non ce lo si aspettava.

Il 24 febbraio, quando hanno provato a cerchiare Kiev,

potevano non conoscere bene la situazione sul terreno, non aver capito a che cosa si sarebbero trovati di fronte.

Quello che non ci si aspettava è che nella fase 2 potessero ripetere di nuovo gli stessi errori della fase 1.

Per esempio mandare i battaglioni appena erano pronti alla spicciolata direttamente a combattere

invece di aspettare in Russia che fossero tutti pronti e poi farli muovere in modo molto compatto.

Le truppe appena erano disponibili dopo essere state ritirate dal nord dell'Ucraina

sono di nuovo state mandate nell'est alla spicciolata e non tutte insieme.

E meno i russi sono compatti, più gli ucraini possono fare la cosa che in assoluto gli riesce meglio,

cioè sfruttare il fatto che sono truppe isolate che hanno i fianchi scoperti per organizzare agguati, trappole e sabotaggi.

Questo alla resistenza riesce molto meglio che non la battaglia carri armati contro carri armati in un campo aperto,

una battaglia del tipo della seconda guerra mondiale.

L'altro grande problema che hanno i russi sono gli uomini.

Non ci sono certezze sulle perdite russe, ma l'intelligence open source che va a cercare,

che mette insieme le immagini satellitari, i video, le foto che arrivano dal campo di battaglia

e conta quanti mezzi sono stati persi dai russi da quando è cominciata questa guerra,

dà un'indicazione importante su quale sia un numero credibile di perdite.

E dà un'indicazione ancora più importante che è il rapporto tra le perdite dei russi

e quanto ci mettono i russi a rigenerare quelle perdite,

cioè a rimettere in campo nuovi carri armati, nuove armi e nuovi uomini e nuovi soldati.

Quanto ci mettono a trovare, a reperire nuove armi e nuovi uomini in Russia.

Gli esperti fanno questo genere di calcoli e unanimemente dicono che il tasso con cui i russi subiscono perdite

rispetto alla loro capacità di rigenerare quelle perdite,

fa pensare che a un certo punto si dovranno fermare e fare una lunga pausa.

Cioè la velocità con cui subiscono le perdite è superiore o molto superiore

rispetto alla velocità con cui riescono a mettere in campo nuovi uomini e nuovi mezzi.

Alcuni dicono che a metà giugno o a inizio luglio i russi dovranno fermarsi

e nel frattempo è sicuro che tutti gli aiuti militari che arrivano dall'Occidente

avranno raggiunto non solo l'Ucraina ma la linea del fronte in Donbass.

Ed è per questo che è in quella fase all'inizio dell'estate che ci si aspetta

che possa iniziare la controoffensiva ucraina per riconquistare i territori che in questo momento stanno perdendo.

Non sappiamo ovviamente se questa controoffensiva ci sarà e come andrà a finire,

ma che i russi quei problemi ce li abbiano è certo.
