Αλλάζοντας χρονιά στη Σόφια (1)

[00:47] Την ημέρα της Πρωτοχρονιάς –αν εξαιρέσεις την ακραία τουριστική Vitosha boulevard, την κεντρική λεωφόρο όπου καταλήγουν αναγκαστικά όλοι οι ξένοι επισκέπτες– η Σόφια είναι έρημη πόλη. Τα ντόπια καφέ, τα φαγάδικα και τα μουσεία που την κάνουν γοητευτική και ενδιαφέρουσα είναι κλειστά, οι συγκοινωνίες αραιές, οι Βούλγαροι στους δρόμους λιγοστοί – οι περισσότεροι προτιμούν να μείνουν στο σπίτι για να συνέλθουν από την κραιπάλη της προηγούμενης νύχτας, χαλαρώνοντας σε οικογενειακές συγκεντρώσεις και σπιτικά τραπεζώματα.

Αν δεν ξέρεις κάποιον ντόπιο για να σε καλέσει σε κάποιο σπιτικό γλέντι, οι επιλογές που έχεις για την ημέρα της Πρωτοχρονιάς είναι ελάχιστες. Το μόνο μουσείο που βρήκαμε ανοιχτό ήταν το «κόκκινο διαμέρισμα», μια έξυπνη –και κερδοφόρα– ιδέα του νεαρού αρχιτέκτονα Valeri Gyurov που είναι καινούργια τουριστική ατραξιόν: ένα αυθεντικό διαμέρισμα της σοσιαλιστικής περιόδου της Σόφιας, όπου μπορείς να δεις λεπτομερώς και με διαδραστικό τρόπο πώς ζούσαν οι άνθρωποι τις δεκαετίες του '70 και του '80. Άνοιξε για το κοινό το περασμένο καλοκαίρι πίσω από το παλάτι της δικαιοσύνης –το Δικαστικό Μέγαρο– και είναι ένα «μουσείο της καθημερινής ζωής στη σοσιαλιστική Βουλγαρία».

Κατά τ' άλλα, η δωρεάν ξενάγηση στο κέντρο με την ομάδα των Free Sofia Tour είναι μια δίωρη βόλτα που αξίζει πραγματικά να κάνεις. Δεν είναι απαραίτητη η κράτηση, ο κόσμος συγκεντρώνεται μπροστά από το Δικαστικό Μέγαρο, εκεί που είναι τα αγάλματα των λιονταριών, χωρίζεται σε ομάδες με δικό της ξεναγό η κάθε μία και μετά τον ακολουθεί, ακούγοντας πληροφορίες και ιστορίες στα αγγλικά για σχεδόν όλα τα αξιοθέατα. Αν δεν έχεις πάει να γράψεις πτυχιακή για τη Σόφια, αυτά που θα σου πουν και θα δεις είναι υπεραρκετά. Τα τουρ ξεκινάνε στις 11 το πρωί, στις 2 το μεσημέρι και στις 6 το απόγευμα και γίνονται 365 μέρες το χρόνο, με όλες τις καιρικές συνθήκες.

Στη Σόφια τα ελληνικά είναι η δεύτερη πιο δημοφιλής γλώσσα κι οι Έλληνες αμέτρητοι, κυρίως Βορειοελλαδίτες που πάνε εκδρομή το Σαββατοκύριακο ή για ψώνια. Μία παρέα από τη Θεσσαλονίκη που έπινε καφέ δίπλα μας στο μαγαζί με την απροσδιόριστη διακόσμηση, λίγο ροκοκό και λίγο international style (και αποκαλούσε τη Σόφια στον πληθυντικό αριθμό και στο ουδέτερο γένος: «ΤΑ Σόφια»), ενθουσιάστηκε όταν άκουσε ότι μιλάγαμε ελληνικά και άρχισε να βγάζει επιφωνήματα στην άλλη άκρη της αίθουσας. Μία από τις κοπέλες, μάλιστα, ήρθε και μας είπε τον πόνο της, ότι δεν έβλεπε την ώρα να επιστρέψει στην πατρίδα, γιατί καλά και χρυσά τα Σόφια, αλλά ψυχρά και άχαρα, καμία σχέση με την όμορφη Θεσσαλονίκη. Μετά άρχισε να μας ρωτάει «πήγατε στην εκκλησία της Αγίας Παρασκευής;» – «Όχι» – «Να πάτε!», «πήγατε στην εκκλησία την Μπογιάνα;» – «Όχι» – «Να πάτε!», «πήγατε στον καθεδρικό;». Εκεί είχαμε πάει, έτσι συνέχισε να απαριθμεί όλες τις εκκλησίες που είχαν πάρει σβάρνα με τη σειρά – δεν ήταν να απορείς γιατί έφευγαν από την πόλη με τις χειρότερες εντυπώσεις.

Τον καθεδρικό ναό του Αλέξανδρου Νιέφσκι, ευτυχώς, είχαμε προλάβει και τον επισκεφτήκαμε την προηγούμενη μέρα, κι αυτό γιατί στο υπόγειό του εκτίθεται μια καταπληκτική συλλογή από εικόνες διαφόρων εποχών και τεχνοτροπιών – κάποιες αριστουργήματα. Ο συγκεκριμένος καθεδρικός είναι η πιο μεγάλος ναός των Βαλκανίων, χωράει 10 χιλιάδες άτομα, προφανώς όρθια και σε στάση προσοχής, γιατί δεν έχει καθόλου καθίσματα.
