P Do li estas ne nur sciencisto, sed ankaŭ lingvisto!

P Mi ne miras, do, ke li bone progresis.

Cetere, laŭ mi, estas multe pli facile kompreni lingvon, ol paroli ĝin. Ĉu vi ne konsentas?

H Jes, kaj duoble pli facile legi ol skribi.

Laŭ li, kiam oni ne komprenas, oni ripete demandu: 'Kion signifas tiu vorto? ', aŭ: 'Kiel oni nomas tion? '...

P Mi konsentas.

P Tell me, Helena, what kind of man is David?

H         Ho, tre klera. H Oh, very educated. H Oh, muy educado. H

He studied natural science at university, and now he teaches languages to the upper class of the gymnasium.

P          Do li estas ne nur sciencisto, sed ankaŭ lingvisto! P So he is not only a scientist, but also a linguist!

How did he learn to speak the language well enough to teach them?

H         Unue, li ĉeestis kursojn kaj sukcesis ĉe la ekzamenoj; due, li multe vojaĝis; kaj trie, li edziĝis kun Maria, kiu edukiĝis en Francujo kaj tre flue parolas la francan. H First, he attended courses and passed the exams; secondly, he traveled extensively; and thirdly, he married Mary, who was educated in France and speaks French very fluently.

P          Mi ne miras, do, ke li bone progresis. P I'm not surprised, then, that he made good progress.

Cetere, laŭ mi, estas multe pli facile kompreni lingvon, ol paroli ĝin. Moreover, in my opinion, it is much easier to understand a language than to speak it. Ĉu vi ne konsentas? Don't you agree?

H         Jes, kaj duoble pli facile legi ol skribi. H Yes, and twice as easy to read as it is to write.

The first problem when starting to learn a new language is pronouncing the words correctly, especially where they are unusual sounds.

P (laughing) And the second is to understand the meaning!

H         Davido donis al mi bonan konsilon. H David gave me good advice. H David me dio buenos consejos. H David

Laŭ li, kiam oni ne komprenas, oni ripete demandu:  'Kion signifas tiu vorto? According to him, when one does not understand, one repeatedly asks: ‘What does that word mean? ', aŭ:  'Kiel oni nomas tion? ', or:' What's that called? ', o:' ¿Cómo se llama? '...

P          Mi konsentas. P I agree. P

Oni ne hezitu fari demandojn. Zögern Sie nicht, Fragen zu stellen. Do not hesitate to ask questions. No dudes en hacer preguntas. Tiel oni lernas paroli ĝuste. So lernt man richtig sprechen. That's how you learn to speak correctly. Así es como aprendes a hablar correctamente. In my opinion, the daily conversation is very important. In school, only classics are studied too often.

H But I also prefer to have some poetry and literature.

Tio donas pli da intereso. Das gibt mehr Interesse. That gives more interest. Eso da más interés.

P For me the main problem is not the grammar, but the vocabulary.

Oni devas lerni tiom da vortoj! You have to learn so many words! ¡Tienes que aprender tantas palabras!

H At least in Esperanto this problem is not as acute as in other languages.

Tre helpas la sistemo de afiksoj. The system of affixes helps a lot.

P Consent; however, it remains a problem, Once I started learning Russian; but I had to give up because of the pile of words I couldn't remember at all!

H         Aŭskultu: venis al mi ideo. H Listen: an idea came to me. H Escucha: se me ocurrió una idea. H

We want to practice French, don't we? Queremos practicar francés, ¿no? Tiel ni estos pretaj por nia ferio. That way we will be ready for our vacation. Davido kaj Maria povus helpi nin! David and Mary could help us! ¡David y María podrían ayudarnos! Ni invitu ilin vespermanĝi ĉe ni! Let's invite them to dinner with us! ¡Invitémoslos a cenar con nosotros!

P          Se ili venos, ni estos kvar. P If they come, we will be four. P Si vienen, seremos cuatro. P

Kaj inter tiu kvaro estos parolata nur franca. And among that four only French will be spoken.

H         Aŭ Esperanto! H Or Esperanto! H

Esperanto is five times easier to learn than French!
