Still in so much pain from that hard effort the other day.

I have no idea if I'm doing this right.

Guys I'm tired. It's hard working and training all at the same time.

This area just here is where I got chased by a wombat last

year. I'm gonna spend some quality time with a torture device.

So great timing. I'm on a stag do. Man, you guys are machines.

And run done. Now I need a really good title for it.

That's right.

You can now set up group challenges with up to 25 friends on Strava.

So we have to give this ago and we thought it was a perfect time to invite some

of you, The Running Channel community along to get involved.

So welcome to the presenters versus the community,

ultimate Strava challenge,

but who will be the winner? Gonna to have to watch to find out. All you have to do

to be considered for our next community challenge is give this video a like,

telling us why we should choose you. Now,

let's see how everyone got on. One week, three challenges,

eight competitors.

We've decided to run three Strava challenges across the week.

So we're going to be going for total distance covered.

Most elevation gained, and most time spent doing activities.

And these are the list of activities that will count towards each of those

challenges.

We'll be able to keep tabs on each other on the leaderboard throughout the week.

So we can see who is doing what,

will one person take the crown overall or where we have different winners for

each challenge? Are there going to be any tactics that come into play?

There's only one way to find out let's go.

So Strava challenge, let's talk tactics. Now,

most people are probably gonna, go on a few extra runs, walk up some hills,

do a few more workouts, got to be more tactical than that.

So I'm deciding I'm going to get in that extra time, those extra workouts,

distance, I'm not sure about elevation,

but we'll see what we can do by tracking every single walk that I do

starting off with my probably

about five minute walk from the train station to the office.

I'm really tempted to check the leader boards, to see who is doing what,

because I think with the time difference,

I think I probably already got a headstart.

Hi, y'all my name's Shane.

My running journey began about three and a half years ago when I had an accident

and home and ended up in hospital with suspected spinal injuries

after a bunch of scans,

I was finally given the all clear and the medical staff who were fantastic, uh,

told me that I was lucky to be still walking.

So I thought I'd take full advantage of that and just started walking, uh,

with the goal of 10,000 steps a day and just gradually went from there. Uh,

at the time I was pretty physically and mentally unfit, uh,

and not in a good way. And running has just been fantastic for,

my both physical and mental health.

And my only regret is that I hadn't started it a lot sooner.

I know my strengths and I know my weaknesses.

And the one thing I know is I am not trying to win the elevation challenge.

Hello, my name's Jess.

I'm 25 and I'm from the very hilly city of Bristol.

But for this challenge,

I'm going to be splitting my time between here and Romford in east London.

Not going to lie, I'm a little bit nervous for this challenge.

I've only been running for properly for about 18 months.

So I'm nowhere near as experienced as

most of the people competing in this challenge.

So if you want to support an underdog right here.

The hardest part about this challenge will be balancing family and fitness.

Like it always is. It requires me to work out in the morning, wake up super early,

go for my runs before the kiddos up, it'll be fun. It'll be worth it.

I'm excited.

So how do Strava group challenges actually work? Well, first of all,

you need to pick what type of challenge you're going to be doing.

So is it going to be most activity by time, distance and elevation?

That's what we're doing or is it going to be the fastest time over a

certain distance, like a time trial or the longest recorded activity.

Once you've decided you then need to pick which activities count towards the

challenge, pick your timeframe, give it a name, kind of good to go.

What better way to get some extra time, distance,

no elevation cause er that would've made it even harder,

but I've just filmed the treadmill challenge for The Running Channel's monthly

show. Go check out the July monthly show. um, it was very hard,

but I've got some extra minutes in.

Halfway through run number one, I'm at that

lovely point where you just think you can keep on running forever,

but we'll see how long that lasts. Hey guys, it's me. It's Kesh.

And it is day one of the challenges and I'm going for a walk.

I feel that's so like anticlimactic,

like everyone's proper going ham on the first day.

I think Juan put it like over like 12k. Guys.

I'm a track athlete and when I'm not on the track, I just don't want to run.

I only started doing road running when the lockdown happened and obviously the

tracks were closed. So one had to run in the road.

And when I tell you guys I nearly died, I don't know how you guys do it.

Absolutely,

crazy stuff. Now, I'm not usually a two runs a day kind of gal,

but I've seen the leaderboard.

And I kind of feel like I need to step up my game a little bit.

Ron one, absolutely no tactics at all. I wasn't even gonna bother running.

I'm tired long day at work.

It's actually nine o'clock at night on a beautiful summer's evening.

And then I saw the leaderboard,

for the challenges, and I saw the guys getting out for all their activities,

and I thought I've got to do it. It really motivated me to get out.

This amazing positive things. So here I am short run, 20 minutes,

get the body moving.

Don't know whether you can see it. That's where I'm going.

So it's day two of the Strava challenge, day two.

And uh, wow,

people are running. The distance leaderboard,

I'm nowhere near the top. I've got nowhere.

I've got no chance of getting anywhere near the top. What

I find really funny though,

is that because we're doing this as a global challenge, every single morning,

I wake up probably just as Shane is going to bed.

And, uh, he's done his running for the day.

Feeling slightly intimidated by how well Shane's doing on day two.

I'm gonna try and reign in my competitive streak and just take it at my own

pace, but we'll see how long that lasts.

Alrighty. We are day three. Uh, I am post my second night shift.

So I am extremely fatigued at the moment. And I'm going to go do a hill climb.

Up at er Mount Daniel, it's about 45 minutes from my place, so I'll

do it a few times just to make it worthwhile.

And it's freezing and it's raining. So, here we go. Yesterday,

Beautiful sunshine tonight. Well,

this is to have a crack at your English guys, this is English weather.

I was feeling relatively confident about the elevation challenge until I woke up

this morning and realised that Shayne must've climbed some kind of cliff,

so I might need to change my tactics. Okay.

So I'll admit it's been a pretty slow start to the week for me.

I need to make up for it.

I've been saving myself for another Running Channel challenge.

So for a totally different video,

I've got an all out 10k to do right now this morning.

So I've paced myself at the beginning of the week.

Hopefully this is going to up my mileage and my time spent.

But because it's a max effort,

I'm going to gain almost no elevation and not spend as much time as I could

doing it. So not really thought this through tactically.

I'm not going to lie.

I thought it would be doing better than this so far right now,

I'm on fifth place and you know, I'm doing my best,

but there was no way I can run two times a day. Man, you guys are machines.

So let's recap. Nearly lost the GoPro, had a descent spill,

and I don't think I've done much damage to the knee, but I'm just gonna take it easy

Take the rest of the day off.

Just finished filming flat out 10k,

that was absolutely brutal,

but I'm hoping that together with all of the other stuff,

the other running around I had to do for the filming that it's going to up my

totals on the leaderboards fingers crossed.

It's challenge time. And this time it's a challenge for you.

my usual runs basically easy Monday, bit of tempo on Tuesday, longer run on

Wednesday. Um,

I am feeling kind of tired, um, but no more so than usual, I guess.

Normally I wouldn't be running at this time of day,

but I'm far behind and I'm trying to catch up to everybody else.

I've got to do whatever it takes, right?

I have just spent our morning Running Channel meeting with my laptop,

positioned on the treadmill and I've done 53 minutes of walking.

The last thing that I needed,

tactically was an all out race effort and hours in the sun spent filming yesterday.

So I'm getting the excuses in early. That's really hurt me.
