THE CROW AND THE PITCHER カラスと投手 A thirsty Crow found a Pitcher with some water in it, but so little was there that, try as she might, she could not reach it with her beak, and it seemed as though she would die of thirst within sight of the remedy. 喉が渇いたカラスは水が少し入ったピッチャーを見つけましたが、そこにはほとんどないので、彼女のくちばしでは手を伸ばすことができず、救済策の目には喉の渇きで死ぬようでした。

At last she hit upon a clever plan. とうとう彼女は賢い計画を思いついた。 She began dropping pebbles into the Pitcher, and with each pebble the water rose a little higher until at last it reached the brim, and the knowing bird was enabled to quench her thirst. 彼女は小石を投手に落とし始め、小石が1つ増えるごとに水が少し高くなり、ついに水が縁に達し、知っている鳥は喉の渇きを消すことができました。 Necessity is the mother of invention. 必要は発明の母。
