Guns in the US – level 2
In the first half of 2021, more than 8,100 people died in the US because of gun violence. It is the highest number in the last 20 years.
A report said that almost 54 Americans died every day in shootings. It was 14 more people than in the same time in the past six years. Last weekend, more than 120 people died in shootings.
Experts said that there were more reasons why gun violence was growing. More people owned a gun, and there were many problems between police and communities. Also, there were big differences in the economy and healthcare, and there were racial problems in American society which have lasted a very long time.
Difficult words: gun violence (when people use a gun to do something bad), community (a group of people who have the same culture, ideas, or interests), racial (connected to people´s skin color).
