I LAY down on my bed, with my money and other precious things close at hand. Deitei-me na minha cama, com o meu dinheiro e outras coisas preciosas à mão. Я лягаю на ліжко, гроші та інші цінні речі лежать під рукою.

All night long the wind blew and the rain poured. Durante toda la noche sopló el viento y llovió a cántaros. Durante toda a noite, o vento soprou e a chuva caiu. Всю ніч дув вітер і лив дощ.

Early in the morning I arose and looked out toward the sea. Por la mañana temprano me levanté y miré hacia el mar. De manhã cedo, levantei-me e olhei para o mar. Рано вранці я прокинувся і подивився на море.

The waves were rolling very high. As ondas estavam a rebentar muito alto. Хвилі котилися дуже високо.

My tent was on open ground and could be plainly seen from a distance. Mi tienda estaba en terreno abierto y podía verse claramente desde lejos. A little way from the shore there was a rocky hill. A pouca distância da margem, havia uma colina rochosa. Трохи далі від берега був скелястий пагорб. I went to look at it. Fui dar uma olhadela. Я пішов подивитися на нього.

Halfway up the hill there was a large level place, with a great rock rising behind it like the side of a house. At one place on the side of the great rock there was a break, or opening, like the door to a cave.
