03. English Phrases: Make Excuses - Explanation and Examples.
Hello, this is Jack from tofluency.com, and in this video we're going to look at the phrase “make excuses” - and I used this phrase in a video where I was talking about the perfect time to start learning English.
So, let's have a look at how I used this phrase... if you're saying those kinds of things then you're only making excuses.
So, in the video I said, "If you're saying those kinds of things then you're only making excuses.
Now, to make an excuse means to give false reasons for why you can't do something. So it's to give false reasons and this is different than giving a reason for why you can't do it do something because making an excuse is a false reason.
So, let's have a look at a couple more examples.. Manchester United's manager always gives excuses for why they lose.
So, the manager talks about false reasons why his team loses. Now imagine you're in a class and the teacher might say this: Stop making excuses and do your work.
Okay, so some students will give excuses why they can't do something and the teacher will say something like this. So, my question for this video is: What excuses to children make for not doing their homework?
