English Convos with Camille (Interview with Melodie), PART 3.1 Melodie

PART 3.1 Melodie

Camille: So, how about you share something that you've been through in your life that's been super difficult and then how you overcame that.

Melodie: So, I would say, I've had a lot of difficult things in my life, as many people have, but thinking of one of them to speak about would be like, when I first got married, my husband and I were very young, I think we came into it with a lot of expectations about, what it means to be married and what the other person should be doing for you, and it causes a lot of marriage problems, so I would say that my marriage was terrible, terrible. And you feel so hopeless, and helpless, and alone, you feel very alone, in those situations, and so, my son was about 9 months, and I you know had gone through this terrible pregnancy, and then he did not sleep well. And so I was just at the end of my rope, and I finally was like, you know what, I'm gonna go to counseling. So I started counseling when Jude, my oldest was 9 months old, and it was hard. Counseling is not, it's not fun, so I went, I went to counseling by myself for a year, and then my husband actually went by himself, and us together for another year. And we learned mainly I mean you deal with your issues, it's not so much about what's going on in the relationship. It's actually so much your own issues, and then learning how to communicate, what you need, and also, being okay with who you are. Yeah. Because if you're okay, and you can be a healthy person, it actually helps when you're relating to somebody else, not just your husband.

Camille: Right.

Melodie: Counseling, running a business or you know being a mother. So, yeah we worked hard, we worked hard and then after 2 years we stopped, but we continued the process of working on our relationship, and now we'll be married 21 years this year.

Camille: Wow, that's amazing.

Melodie: And I would say it's better every year. Camille: Yeah. Melodie: So.

Camille: That's amazing, it was worth fighting for then and going through those hard years of counseling to be able to work on yourself and your marriage, wow. Thank you for sharing that. Yeah, it's worth it.

Melodie: You're welcome.
