PART 2.3 Melodie

Camille: So, switching gears a little bit, you got into the tiny home world, how long ago was that?

Melodie: So, like I mentioned, my, uh, kids grew up, and they were all in school, and it's a different phase of life, and I was like, what do I do, like I have time now. You know, I didn't actually want to go back to the hospital work, I just felt like it wasn't it, wasn't for me at that period, it takes a lot emotionally to be a nurse, so…

Camille: For sure.

Melodie: I was like I kind of wanted to, you know, do something fun and creative. Um, I come from like I said a family of creative people, especially when it comes to building, and design, and interior design. So, um, I actually just approached my mom and said hey, do you want to do a little project, and let's build a tiny home. So, she said yes.

Camille: So, that's how you started.

Melodie: That's how it started.

Camille: No way, and your tiny home was featured on HGTV.

Melodie: Yes.

Camille: Which is amazing.

Melodie: Yeah, “Tiny House, Big Living”. Camille: So they had a whole episode on HGTV, which you can still watch and find.

Melodie: Yep.

Camille: And it featured the building of it or…? Yes. And the after?

Melodie:Yep.

Camille: Okay, yeah, wow, that's amazing, and then, and then after that you went to start a tiny home cafe, which you still have, which is becoming more and more popular in this area. And what led you to start that?

Melodie: So, we built three tiny homes, and the process of buying a tiny home is the most frustrating part, because they don't really know what to do them or how to cla…, or like how to classify them, as far as banks and loans, and so, um, it would be like you'd have all these people that would want to buy, but they wouldn't have the means too, so it was just frustrating. So, I was like I'm kind of done with that scene. I love the creative part, and I love how it impacts people, but then watching people like want it and have no way of getting it, it's just it's kind of sad. So, um, at that time my dad had developed a tiny home community, and he had, we put our first one in there, and he had this front section that he had thought of like doing some commercial buildings, I don't know, maybe renting them out or something, and, uh, we actually it was like me, and a couple other people, like it was a process of just talking it through, and we're like what about a coffee shop? And so then it's just started. My family doesn't do anything halfway, so we decide we're doing something, that happens.
