PART 2.2 Caleb Interview — Learn English with Camille

Camille: Is there something that you've been through in your life that's been just difficult?

Caleb: Yeah. So, I was actually thinking about that, um, here recently, and it's kind of like reflecting on life and I feel like last year 2020, I mean I feel like everyone can say that was a very different year. And some people say that it was really hard, and some people say that it wasn't as hard. Um, and I would say overall like, uh, it was a… it was a really good year for me, but one like very hard thing that I had to learn to navigate was actually working from home.

Camille: Okay.

Caleb: Um, yeah, and so in 2020, I bought a house, um, and transitioning from where I was living to the new house, I was working from home, and so I never really had that experience of, this is actually my home. I immediately moved in, and it was like my office.

Camille: Wow.

Caleb: Because I was working from the living room, and there was no really there was no real space for me to like unwind, or like feel at rest or at peace and that really caused a lot of just like inner turmoil, and just like what it… what's going on, like I feel like I don't have a space. I would end work at four o'clock in the afternoon, and I would leave, and not come back until like it was time to go to bed like…

Camille: And it's your first house.

Caleb: Yeah, exactly, and so like I felt like I couldn't watch TV. I just felt like I couldn't do anything there, and I just felt trapped in the sense of I don't have a space that is my own, and that was really really hard to navigate because you are working in the same place that you're supposed to like feel at rest and at peace, but it's also chaotic and stressful at times, and you don't have a place where your mind can just like unwind. And I just felt like it was very, very hard for me to learn to navigate that, and it wasn't until like you know, experiencing the change of… of a job, the change of being unemployed, and taking that actual equipment that was in my house back to the office space, and now having that space is like that's where I love to be like I love being in my home now, whereas before I hated it. I did not like it, it was like I said, it wasn't peaceful.
